I was wondering if anyone knew of any World War I games that were any good. I have yet to hear of any, all I see are WWII shooters and strategy games. I think it'd be nice to play something else though, and WWI is similar yet still captures my interest.

A couple years ago, I asked someone I knew this exact question. We was a history major. I was asking why there hadn't been any. He said it was because nothing happened. It was boring, and little advancement was made between troops. In other words, not much to make a game on. At least thats what I remember him saying. I doubt, if there is some, that they're many.

While on this topic, I wish somene would make a WWII game told entirely from the German's perspective.

World War I is entirely fascinating, but has been mentioned, not a good source for a game.

Read up on it. In most cases, battles occurred in which one side would throw hundreds of thousands of troops against an any trench, where the enemy would be able to fire on advancing soldiers with machine guns, with shocking levels of proficiency. Massive casualties were caused in very short spans of time, oftne for very few yards in territory.

Theres little a game could be based off of. There weren't many street battles taking place in cities, and many of the towns in France that stood in the middle of the fighting wound up being completely wiped off the map by endless artillery barages.

Weapons like the warplanes and the Tanks used in WWII were technologically impossible, and it was even somewhat revolutionary that the British were able to even get their armored tanks to move. And even by the end of the war, most tanks still moved slower than a soldier could walk. Also, since Germany never fielded more than handful of proto-type tanks, there were no tank battles to speak of. Only isolated instances of opposing tanks coming into contact with each other. Of the tanks lost in battle, a good number of them were lost to simple breakdown, the others to artillery.

Edit: I have heard of a WWI mod for Battlefield 1942 called Battlefield 1918.

I'm sure there are more you can find at Gamespot, but the search was 21 pages. Good luck.
