Apparently, since I'm the only Doctor Who fan who's actually ADMITTED to being a Doctor Who fan, it's just me that's celebrating the news. Well, screw it. I'm going to share all the news that's made me a happy little fanboy with you anyway.

NEWS ITEM NUMBER ONE:

The Independant - Online Edition
The BBC's decision to revive Doctor Who was vindicated last night when it swept the board at the National Television Awards.

The 13-part, £10m series was crowned most popular drama at the award ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall in London, which is voted for by viewers.

It saw off competition from Desperate Housewives, The Bill and the ITV prison drama Bad Girls.

Christopher Eccleston, who played the Time Lord, was named best actor. Billie Piper, who played his assistant Rose Tyler, won best actress.

The series, written by Russell T Davies, kept many elements familiar to fans of Doctor Who, including the Tardis and the Daleks, but was reinvented for a new generation.

Nearly 13 million people tuned into the first episode - the biggest audience since Tom Baker's heyday in the 1970s. Within days of the start of the first series, however, Eccleston quit, saying that he did not want to be "typecast". A Christmas special, a second series and a spin-off are in the offing.
NEWS ITEM NUMBER TWO:

BBC Press Office
Broadcasting live from Television Centre in London, the BBC Children In Need Appeal once again raises the curtain to entertain the nation.

Terry Wogan, the breakdancing granddaddy of the show, is set to be joined by two new glamorous co-hosts whose identities will be revealed very soon. There's an exclusive special scene of Doctor Who, written by Russell T Davies, and stars from Emmerdale, EastEnders, Casualty and The Bill will be getting musical. The Archers show their faces for television when they're joined by some of their celebrity fans in Ambridge; and will the newsreaders do the fandango? So to sum up... Doctor Who took Most Popular Drama, Best Actor and Best Actress at the National television awards, and there's going to be a Doctor Who Children in Need special on the 18th November to tide us over 'til the Christmas special.

I feel all tingly and excited. You know, the way only fanboys can get. Hehe!

I feel a speech is needed, so I'll take my cue from one of the Behind the Sofa again posters...

"2005 will be remembered by fans in years to come as THE year for Doctor Who. Who would have guessed that when the show was re-commsioned that it would be a huge ratings hit, get 2 seasons and 2 specials green lighted at once and win real awards? I (along with my fellow fans) can say "I was there". Because you know what? So we were."
