i know about timing, but do u need to increase the time if there is a string running?

I suggest you use a normal side warp for strings, not a timed warp. That way, the player can press a button when they've finished reading it, instead of either having to wait, or having it disappear too soon.

A single string (with no next) should be set at about 500 tics

Usually, you'd put a [>] at the end of the string, or just layer an arrow sprite below it to tell the player to press a direction when the string has finished.

And if you use secrets combos and conveyors, you can make the player press A to continue the scene, so you wouldn't need to bother with any of that. :)
