As children throughout the country head back to school, many of them are probably muttering a few choice words about the prospect of returning to the classroom and the expected onslaught of homework. But can they utter those choice words and swear at their teachers? If they’re heading back to school in one town in England, then yes, they can.

According to a report in the U.K.’s Daily Mail, one school in the town of Wellingborough is allowing pupils to swear at teachers, providing they only do so no more than five times in a class. A tally of how many times the f-word is used will be kept and if the class exceeds the limit, they will be “spoken” to, the newspaper reported.

The school believes the policy will improve behavior, but parents and parliamentary members have condemned the rule and warned it would backfire...

Wow, that's...strange. O_o Of course when I went to school nobody stopped kids from swearing (or bullying, or fighting, or skipping...) which is one of the MANY reasons I left.

Anyway, thoughts?

What's next? Students are only allowed to shoot five peers before their gun will be taken away and they will be spoken to? Blurring the lines of discipline has never helped instill discipline in people.

By the way, fuck(1) that stupid fucking(2) article and all the fucking(3) fucks(4) who fucking(5) wrote it.

MY VIRGIN EARS

Thanks a lot, Beldaran.

Actually I've never thought of swearing as a big deal. Actually it's a good measure of intelligence. The number of f-bombs someone drops in a given sentance is inversely proportional to their IQ.

Not that I don't let one out from time to time, but it loses it's effectiveness when not used sparingly.

Bah, though I don't think saynig fuck(1) is bad, but I do think that schools should have some fucking(2) standards. We don't want are kids to grow-up thinking fuck(3) is the only adjective and only adverb in the language. Heck, they probably don't know what the fuck(4) those are since education is shit these days. Government should stop punishing the schools/teachers and putting some actual responsiblity on the student to put in some fucking(5) work and certainly not giving them more stuff to get away with.

Fuck. (banned)

You guys apparently haven't been to school lately. When I was in school, I would hear that word uttered when the teacher wasn't looking all the time. And no amount of disciplinary action would keep these kids from doing it for the rest of their lives.

Changing the status quo by allowing it, however, may actually make things worse.

Wasn't it England that was thinking about keeping the word "fail" out of the class? They wanted to change it to "deferred success." I guess they are taking the side of the students at the expense of the teachers.

So remember when you go to England, fail is bad, fuck is good.

Schooling is alot different these days. It's much safer now that all the students have their own guns. Encouraging the freedom to swear can only be bennificial. After all, you wouldn't want the kids grow up and be nice, polite and respectful now would you? That would just be hell on earth. /sarcasm

I doubt the new rule will change anything. The kids will exceed their limits, the teacher will give 'em a good talking to, the information will go in one ear and out the other, and then they'll go back to exceeding their limit. It's a vicious circle.

Personally, I really can't see any positive effects from this change. Having such a system implies that it's alright to swear, rather than socially frowned upon by adults. It may be a "stretch," but if swearing is tolerated to a degree, who knows what else they're breeding in the core of tolerance. You might see a limit to how much porn youngsters can buy. O_o'

Wait - I'm British! I can actually comment on this and sound relevant! Huzzah!

Our schools are, literally, falling apart. Thanks to the idea of mixed classes, the 'troubled' kids make learning impossible for the rest of the class. Pass rates have gone up, but the exams HAVE gotten easier and teachers ARE essentially making kids learn the answers before they take them. Teachers have less power then they did. Kids are constantly going on about their 'rights'. Parents are getting lazy and relying more upon the government to provide for them. More and more children are leaving school unable to read and write properly.

Think you're improving education, Mr Blair? Fuck that and fuck you. You've fucked up everything and you think you're so fucking righteous. Well fucking done.

Waits patiently until the next lesson

Another crappy attempt at improving the behavior of students. *claps*

Chances are, this will only worsen the actions of the kids. They'll take advantage of it and get their four instances of "fuck" each day in the classroom.

What's a real surprise is that this is a problem in Britain, rather than America.

Reminds me of the South Park episode where they let the kids use Shit only in certain context.

I'd fuck up the entire class, seeing as I have one of the worst potty mouths of anyone I know.

What the fuck? Thats really fucked up, those fucking students will be so out of fucking control by the end of the year. Most of them will probably just use their 5 fucks each day for fun. I know I would. And I did!

Well, what a NICE way to improve behavoir. When students have power, they seek to use it. They'll use their 5 fucks every day for the hell of it.

Fuckity fuck fuck fuck.

Kids curse all the fucking time at my school. With each other, at each other, with teachers, at teachers. Many kids in my school will not hesitate to cuss a teacher out. I, however, was brought up with the respect that can only come from a country that uses corpral punishment, so I don't curse AT a teacher or elders (unless necessary).
