We all know of the option in ZQuest to enable a player to access a map of the portion of the overworld that they visited by pressing a key. On one hand, by enabling it, a player can avoid getting lost, but the fun of exploring overworlds and finding things might be spoiled by enabling this feature.

Do you have any preferences regarding the enabling or disabling of this in-game map system? Hint: I know I will use 2 complete (16 x 8) overworld maps in my quest and possibly a partial third one.

It's got a bug that triggers secrets on layers, so for that reason I turn it off.

What do you mean by "triggering secrets on layers?"

I mean it triggers flags of secret combos that are on a layer other then 0, which means most of the kinds of secrets I do. ;)

Say for example you have a bridge link can walk over and under that toggles between layer 1 and 3, it sets it off, or anything else that has secret combo flags on a layer.

Why would you want to put secret combos on layers? It's harder.

I think I know why though. I used layers on a svcreen and had a bombable cave on the same screen, but the combo became blank instead of the one i set. How do you fix it?

Does it have to do with flags on layers?

Why do it?
to have 40 different things going on all at the same time, of course. ;)
You have 6 layers, and secret combos 16 through 31 for each, so you can make ANYTHING happen hampered only by your lack of imagination.
Want it to stop raining when you blow the whistle?
flag the rain on layer 6
want to walk both over and under a bridge on one screen, flag it to toggle between layer 1 and 3.....

But I don't use layers because of the problem i'm having hthat I already told you about.

How do you put flags on a layer?

layers are just like stacking 6 screens on top of each other, like those overhead projectors at schools.
You press the page up page down key once up to see the layer screen, and layer 0 is constant.
you click in the little box under each layer to work on that layer.
IDK's tutorial goes in to layers in great depth, and shows you exactly how to work with them.

quests without layers are BORING ;)

I've only learned about layers recently, so i'm kind of new to it.

This also solves my problems with secret combos and layers.
