I am bored of the standard windows screen savers. I need something good. However, I don't want to go download a bunch of virus-ware from shady would-be screensaver sites.

Does anyone have any cool screen savers or sources for screen savers? Help make my comptuer a bit more fun. :(

I used to have Webshots, but I decided I didn't need a screensaver after I upgraded my computer about a year ago. They have a wide variety to use as backgrounds and screensavers.

There's also screensavers.com and freesaver.com.

My 2 favorites are Fizzy Fractals (http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Lab/1222/index.html) and Synthesoft's (http://www.synthesoft.com/) screensavers.

Webshots is really cool, thanks.

Jaye: Dude, the fractals are bad ass. Thank you.

I never use screen savers. I prolly should though.

I should as well, but I really don't idle on it. o.o' The most I've ever idled on a PC was for about half an hour, I'll bet. My screensaver is as dull as my desktop. It literally never changes.

I remember being completely awed and enthralled in that old Windows 95 screensaver back in 7th grade. I'd look through the window to the vice principal's office and just stare at his monitor for as long as I could before getting back to class. It was just so amazing.

And to think that they've got so much better stuff now. Just boggles the mind ...

If it's a normal screen, you'd probably be better off just turning on the feature which blanks out the monitor when left alone. If it's an LCD screen, I use a Windows XP Powertoy which allows you to use video files as a screensaver. It needs a previous version of Windows Media Player, but I use Winamp anyway, so it was fine for me.

I found a really cool Batman Begins screen saver a few days ago. It displays all the nifty screens and monitors inside the new Batmobile.

Comes in a variety of screen sizes for your viewing pleasure, but the bigger you go, the more processing power it tends to take.

I've got that Matrix one too. Very swish.

EDIT: Oops, wrong one. I've got a proper Matrix screensaver that looks like what you see on the screens - green text falling down and stuff. Makes me feel like an operator. But not Tank. :scared:

The one I use at work is called fireflies (http://somewhere.fscked.org/fireflies/). Swarms of little diamond-shaped "fireflies" zoom around the screen leaving multicolored trails in their wake. It looks great on my mac... the Windows version is a little laggy though, at least on this POS. Might be better with a good video card.

Here's what it looks like. A still shot doesn't really do it justice, but you can at least get the gist.

I'm using Flurry (http://www.wincustomize.com/ViewSkin.aspx?SID=1&SkinID=75&LibID=40&u=0), which is actually a Mac screen saver someone ported to Windows.
There are many others on that site, but they're mostly pretty bad.

I use Windows' 'My Pictures Screensaver' and I set the directory for my comics collection. I have hundreds of Calvin and Hobbes, Dilbert, Foxtrot, etc. and it will show a new one every few seconds. Sometimes I just sit and watch my screensaver...

Yeah, I wish I had that. I use Win2k and it doesn't come with My Pictures. Of course, thank to the inestimable carrot red, I now have webshots which is like My Pictures on steroids.
