I recently put back together an old computer that I had sitting in my room, and got it more or less up and running. However, I've run into a rather serious roadblock. Once I installed XP, the DVD and CD-RW drives disappeared. The strange bit is that the BIOS still recognizes the fact that I have a DVD drive set in the Secondary Master slot, but even the BIOS ignores the CD-RW. I start Windows up and I am only able to access the floppy and hard drives. I am unable to access the Internet on that PC, and in fact I need a CD drive operational so I can set up the wireless network. This is so infuriating because I just need to use the damned drive once and then I could care less whether it ever works again (I plan to just use it as backup storage and basic Net surfing). Help me please.
