Link to Tortuga problem

I'm probably going to get heat for this but I have a problem in the game. Okay, it took me forever to figure out how to get in the 1st level (I found out I had to blow up the north wall of the cave). I thought it was going to be smooth sailing after this, BUT NO! You people might think I'm an idiot, but I can't even open the chest when you first enter the level!!! I have the key and everything. I go up to it. I push the button, but it won't open. I try to hit all the buttons, but it won't open. Is it a problem with the game? Is there something I'm not seeing? I really, really, can't open the chest! Thanks in advance for any help at all!

Did you also checked out all the other entrances
( When you leave that cave outside in the left corner you can move on )

I found one enterance. The other one I can't find. Doesn't that chest in the first entrance have the sword though?

The sword you can find close to the startpoint , when you go from the start up to the pond and then up in the pond :)
a little chest you can open with your sword only a big chest need a key
