NPC Dialogue (Newbie question?)

I have seen screenshots of adventures in which there were LttP style dialogue boxes which (presumably) can be used for talking with (listening to?) NPC characters. Is this a feature that's been added since I last sat down with zquest (a few years back I guess) or are people doing wierd warpy workarounds with combos?

They're just using combos, you can't actually have dialog windows, at least not currently.
