after a certain dungeon, you get warped to the 'future,' like in Oot. should i have a portal room to return to the past to get missed but important items (such as the white sword, magic boomerang, ect.)?

Yeah, that would help, unless you make sure they have those items before they go to the future. That way you wouldn't have to make the room.
