Xenogears Help

Can anyone give me a more detailed explanation? I'm at the first town in Aveh, the one with the fair. I met the guy in the hotel who is gonna help save Margie, and I went to the castle and registered for the tournament and now I'm stuck. I read gamefaqs but it was all blurred together, something about hide and see and an old man at a gate with a key or something... How do I get to "tomorrow" when the tournament is?
