I've been stuck using AOL on the internet for a long time now, but I really want to switch to Firefox, so I opened the "start a new connection wizard" and entered all of the info I am currently using on AOL, but it still doesn't connect! Am I missing something here?

I think you have to sign onto AOL like you normally do, and after you're signed on, minimize AOL, and the launch Firefox. (you don't need to mess with the Internet Connection Wizard - your connection is staying the same)

Nope, still didn't work. I've tried tons of sites, but it always times out on me.

Best advice... dump AOL and shell out the 40 bucks for broadband. Comcast* might suck, but it's a damn sight better than AOL. And any AOL "service" you'll be missing out on has a free counterpart somewhere on the internet... aside from an actual AOL email address, and the occasional rare perk like getting to see the Episode 3 trailer before anyone else, that is.

I used to have AOL, the only thing I liked about it was how it said "You've got mail" if you have mail when you sign in. Last year I had Fire Fox, but it was causing problems when I tried to look at porn. So now I just use IE.

People make extensions for all sorts of random things.

Also, if you use Gmail (I can't promote it enough, it seems) you can have a notifier show whenever you have mail every time you open Firefox.

I have a notifier when I log onto MSN. What I liked was that it actually said it.

You can change the noise AOL makes when "You've got mail." I use AOL 4.0 on my home computer and Mozilla on my laptop.

that extension doesn't work anymore for v1.0 though. =(

I used to be livin' the good life with Comcast and no AOL, but I was painfully forced out of it by my mom after a fatal spyware incident (LONG bedore I knew of Firefox). That and plus the fact that she didn't want to pay all that money for it.

I like Firefox, but the only reason I have it installed on my machine is because my machine is too slow to run Mozilla (last time I checked anyway. that may not be true anymore) I like Mozilla much more than Firefox.

btw, a new version of FIrefox just came out (1.0.1) with some bug fixes.

you have to connect through AOL and AOL alone using it's software. Get rid of it and get something better.

I remember reading somewhere that AOL has a setting where you can choose whether to allow anything other than AOL to access the internet while your connected. You might wanna look into that and see whether it is enabled or not.

You wouldn't happen to know which setting this is? (there are literally HUNDREDS of settings on this)
