I think my dad has decided it's time for him to get a new computer because he needs one that is really good at gaming for his Online NASCAR races. This means I will get his if he does, and my brother and sister will have the one I'm on now. :)

Mine:
Pentium III, 797 Mhtz
Windows XP Home SP2 (Though it came with WinME >_<)
384 MB RAM
27GB Hard Drive
Nvidia 2 GTS Graphics Card
19'' CTR Monitor

His:
Pentium 4, 1.6Ghtz
Windows XP Home SP1
252 MB RAM
80GB Hard drive with a CD burner (though the computer says it's 74GB and the burner kinda doesn't work for some reason after my sister got a virus on it...:()
Nvidia 4 something-or-other with the newest driver, I just know it's better than mine. ^_^)
15'' CTR Monitor

Both are Dells ordered directly from Dell.com. I know that there are a lot better computers out there but I guess it's better than both of us getting new ones. (He got this one a couple of years ago) His is updated enough for me, my main concern is getting that Burner to work, lol! ^_^ And he actually added some RAM to mine so I can probably get some more on his, but I'm not that intense a PC Gamer, I'm more a console person. :) I'll miss my monitor but I can see his pretty good on 800x600 resolution.

So, what kind of computers do you have at your house and what do you do when you get new ones?

We had a Packard Bell that was so horrible that it committed suicide out of shame (even the monitor exploded)

Then we got a Dell, then we gave it away and got this Dell, then my dad got that newer Dell and gave this one to me and now he'll get a new one and give his to me and mine to my siblings (I love being first-born. :))

Mine:
Dell Dimension XPS T450
Pentium III 450 MHz
Mandrake Linux 9.2
640 MB PC100 SD RAM
10 GB HD
CD-ROM and Sony CD-RW Drive
Sound Blaster Live!
Nvidia Riva TNT 16 MB AGP
100 MB External Zip Drive

My Dad's:
Power Mac G4
Dual 1 GHz G4
Mac OS X (10.3.8)
1 GB PC2700 DDR RAM
80 GB HD
Super drive (DVD-RW/CD-RW)
ATI Radeon 9000

My old computer:
AMD K6-2 523 MHz
Mandrake Linux 8.2
512 MB PC100 SD RAM
10 GB HD
CD-ROM
Nvidia GeForce2 32 MB PCI
(broken - some part of the mother board is fried I think and I can't use
my mouse or any USB ports)

Setup for my aunt:
AMD K6-2 200 MHz
Windows XP SP2
196 MB PC100 SD RAM
10 GB HD
Sony CD-RW
ATI Rage PCI
(broken - won't boot. need to examine more though)

Not sure what to do those last two computers. I'm sure I could sell some pieces (like the RAM and maybe the monitor for them), but not the whole system. I may wind up just giving them away on freecycle.org or something

Nah, the monitor's ok. :) The reason it's staying with them is because the old one is cream-colored while the newer one is black. Switching would make them look really tacky. :p I did ask him about it and I asked if he cared about the new monitor and maybe we could swich if he bought another 19'' but he said he wants a flatscreen which I completely understand (and I have a harder time seeing a flatscreen then I do that 15'') and I really can see the 15'' ok. I even have to put the 19'' on 800x600 but there is something about the smaller monitor that I can see it pretty good. (maybe the desk it's on, or the chair, I dunno, but it's fine. :)

My brother has a cheap computer I built him for college a few years ago. I got all the parts used and for pretty cheap:
asus a7nvx-x motherboard
athlon xp 2400+
512mb value pc2100 ram
160gb western digital SE hard drive
geforce 3 ti 500

My parents have an even cheaper computer:
Chaintech mobo with onboard video and sound.
athlon xp 2000+
256mb value pc2100
10gb hard drive

My main computer is my pride and joy at the moment. I spend all my free time working on it.

dfi infinity ultra b
1gig ocz pc3200 @ 2-3-2-6
athlon mobile 2500+ at 2600mhz
creative audigy 2 zs
enermax 460w psu
nvidia 6800nu w/ 1 unlocked vertex shader (@360/860)
danger den watercooling setup.

since christmas I've been working on the case that holds my current computer. Its still a wip, but here is a couple pics of what I've done sofar:

And, before anyone pounces on me about the practicality and/or cost effectiveness of watercooling. Its a hobby I enjoy, leave it at that. kthx.

I also have almost enough parts for another computer. I use them for diagnostics:

They include:
nf7-s motherboard
creative 5.1 sound card
80gb western digital hard drive
aiw 9600 pro (which I may be selling very soon :))
geforce 2 ti
enermax 420w psu

I checked his again and it's a P4 1.80Ghrts 80GB Harddrive with 256MB Ram, and a Nvidia Geforce 4 he added, not the generic Dell one, so that means it probably supports Pixel Shading. All I need is another RAM stick and it'll be perfect.

He's getting himself one of these (http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/dimen_xps4?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn) beauties and all three computers can share the BellSouth FastAccess DSL Extreme Modem which means 3.0Mbps for all. :) He said he'd reformat them on Feb 27th for us to start using, I hope all goes according to plan. :)

Both are Dells That says it all. Not that I can lord over it... I have an eMachine that my girlfriend's parents got us two Christmases ago. I guess that means I'm jealous of your Dell (God, I hate saying that).

2.6 GHz Celery, 80Gig HD, 256MB RAM, Intel "3D Extreme Graphics..." whatever the hell that is. Might as well call it "Totally Awesome Video Card, Dude! ROCK ON!" Whatever the video card is, I can play GTA: Vice City, but just barely. I can also run Maya 6, but it's sluggish, and 3dStudio Max 5, as long as my models aren't too complex.

What do people have against Dells? Dells have to be THE most stable, solid PCs you can buy from a computer company. I've used compaqs, HPs, Packard Bells and lord only knows the brands at the library are, and Dell beats all of them, hands down.

I think the reasoning is that Dell uses a proprietary power supply configuration, if I remember correctly (read: you can't replace it with a standard ATX supply if it goes bad).

Ahhh, but none of ours have ever gone bad or anything. My dad takes good care of computers, and the only thing like that that went on is when that Packard Bell monitor started smoking, and it was not on a Dell.

Just the fact that it's a PC made from a computer company ;). People are against multinationals you know ... and personnaly I'd rather build my own computer at the local MicroBytes than having someone else decide for me.

Of course I know some people aren't in knowing how to build a computer themselves ... I never tried any company-made PC beside IBM, but I assume it's always better to build one yourself, for your needs.

I guess so, but if you can't build one, Dell lets you customize. :)

It's here! The XPS Gen 4 is here!!! My dad hasn't come to unpack it yet, but that other computer will be mine very soon, if not today then this weekend! Coincidently, it arrived a few minutes ago, and today is his birthday. :)

This hasn't had a reply in awhile, I hope this double post is ok?

Hay glad to see you get the upgrade.
Dells are ok but like some others I build my own.
My daughter and her new husband just bought a new dell.
I don't know the sepcts but they payed over 12 hundered for it.
I told them I could bulid the equilivent for half that much.
But my son-in-law wanted the service and online support they offer.
Whatever.
Still...More (PC)Power to ya.

Well, here I am, posting from it! I even got a brand new desk. It's almost mine, except Dad still has to get his files off and wipe the drive and reinstall Windows. I'm VERY happy right now.

Oh, I forgot! The monitor always looked smaller on his desk for some reason, to me, but turnes out it's a 19'' too, identical to the white one! :):):)
