Your dad got drunk last night. Unfortuniatly, because your dad happens to be the King of the Cosmos, he destroyed all of the stars in the sky in a drunken rampage. So you, the prince, are in charge of getting replacements.

This is your dad:

So, how do you go about getting replacements? Well, you have a katamari. A katamari is a ball that everything it attaches to. Unfortuniatly, it starts out rather small, and in order to pick up bigger stuff, you need to get the smalller stuff first until you are comparable in size to the bigger stuff.

This is your katamari soon after begining the game:

Before you know it, you get from lego blocks to...

Sorry, you're going to have to play the game yourself. And I inisit so.

Name of the game is "Katamari Damacy". And it's only nineteen dollars. And it's for the PS2. None of you have an excuse to not at least try it out. NONE OF YOU ;o

I remember Atma's review. :p

It's not on the GCN? I may get it otherwise.

What does the initial ... "Ball" look like though?

EDIT: Oh, I see now... Some little green thing is pushing it all. I had originally thought it was like a steamroller sort of thing, or a snowball, picking up everything it ran over.

I HAVE that game! It totally rocks! Specially when you have to biuld the moon. Some levels you get a reallly big katamari, that like, collects sperm whales, clouds, rainbows, and islands. Other levels you ubber small, picking up dice and paper clips and shit.

Oh yeah? Who here was dedicated enough to get the soundtrack? Oh yeah, that's me, baby! The game rocks so hard it's not even funny.

Looking at your posting record at SA makes me not surprised in the least. :)

Well, If I had the cash, I'd consider getting the OST. In fact, even without it, I still consider getting it. I love the music. I just got my game back today from letting someone borrow it.

As for what the Katamari (a.k.a. ball) looks like initially, you can kind of see it in the second image. Its the bit of orange you see with the green and white circles. Its very remenescent of a Bumble Ball (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0002H3SCI/qid=1108169655/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/002-8359193-6601649?v=glance&s=home-garden&n=507846) although, the knobs don't stick out as much and are rounded. Different stages have different colored katamari.

The big climactic part of the game is creating the moon. When the end of the stage it literally empty because its all stuck to your katamari. :D

I don't even own a PS2 and I have this game. $20 for a gem like this is well worth it.

I love this game.

..Too short though. I beat it after 4 days and completely in 2 weeks. I got it for Christmas. Now all I have are O2Jam, Taiko No Tatsujin and Pop'n Music. =\

For quite a while at work they had a copy of Game Developer on the counter which had the postmortem for Katamari Damacy in it. The cover was the green thing rolling the title up into one of those balls:

Seeing it every day made me kinda curious about it after a while. What is the gameplay like? Are there enemies and obstacles, or is it more like a race against the clock sort of thing?

Okay, here's the deal. You have this little sticky katamari, right? Move both the analog sticks around and it moves. Pick stuff up. If you're too small to pick it up, stuff gets knocked off. You have to get a certain size to in a limited amount of time to move on.

...That's it, really.

I just love how they incorporated the concept into as much of the game as possible. Rolling over letters to choose your file, picking up countries during the credits, songs about rolling people up into stars...

Oh yeah? Who here was dedicated enough to get the soundtrack? Oh yeah, that's me, baby!Bah. Did you take the time to learn the words? Hmm?
'Cause, lemme tell ya, Katamari on the Rocks doesn't make a damn bit more sense when you know the Japanese parts.
