How is the raft launched?

I can't remember how to launch the raft. How are the items above the b button inventory box used?

The raft is used when:

You have it in your inventory.
You step on a 'dock' combo.
This 'dock' combo also has flag 8 on it, with a path drawn.

As far as other non-B items -

Magic Key - used automatically at a locked door
Blue/Red ring - used automatically when attacked
Ladder - used automatically when trying to cross a 'ladder only' combo, or a water type combo when the 'use ladder' screen flag is checked
Raft - as above
Bracelet - Instantly moves a combo of type 'push-heavy', push against to move a 'push-hw"
Shield - obvious
Book - instantly turns wand beams into fire beams
Boots - instantly used to drain magic over damage combos
Flippers - makes link instantly swim on 'water' combos.
