Um, yes. basically as the title says. Websense didn't used to block hotmail when I used firefox, but as of now, it does. I think it was something set up exclusively in my school, and I was wondering if anyone knows any bypass sites that will work to let me check my email? Ibypass.org won't work...
thanks in advance.

I wrote this up a while ago. I'm not sure if you'd still need to go to another site (megaproxy, etc.) through the babelfish; they improved the fish a lot and it handles cookies now. I have websense too; they used to block agn until they switched to .net, and never bothered blocking that. You could also use putty and lynx if you have a home computer running linux.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FIREWALL-B-GONE:
In just these 4 easy steps, you can view pornography and other questionable materials through the schools firewall!
1. Visit the site:
http://babelfish.altavista.com/
2. On the page, a text box reads "Translate a Web page - Enter the Web address of the page you wish to translate". Inside the text box, enter the web adress:
http://www.megaproxy.com
A pulldown menu next to the box has a listing of language translation pairs. Select Chinese to English and click on the button translate.
OR
After typing the web adress, hit Tab, C, Tab, Space/Enter.
3. A website will appear with a banner across the top for AltaVista.com. In the lower half of the screen, there is a text box. Below the text box there is a button that says "CLICK HERE to switch to a secure 128bit SSL mode."
Click on "CLICK HERE"
4. In the text box, enter the desired site for surfing, and click on the button "SURF"
A new window will pop up with a legal statement, and a button. Book mark the site for easier return access.
Uh... right after the click translate thing I'm lost. nothign pops up. Does mozilla rape the popup without telling me?
Could you just give me a link to the final page, possibly?
EDIT : no, I'm just retarded. I see the bar now, but... theres no link anywhere that you refered to...
Help?
EDIT AGAIN: OK, I clicked try for free, which had something similar to what you spoke of, and I put hotmail.com into the box for surfing and got this error -
MEGAPROXY® CONTROL COOKIE NOT FOUND
There is a problem with Internet cookies. You are seeing this page for one of these reasons:
1. Your Web browser accumulated more session-state cookies than it can effectively handle. Example: Internet Explorer browser can store only up to 20 session-state cookies from a single domain name.
2. The time clock on your computer is off by more than 24 hours.
3. Hot-linking is not allowed. Please START SURFING HERE (https://www.megaproxy.com/freesurf/).
WYSIWYG editor made it ugly. Uh... I need to be able to log in. I can acess most sites with Ibypass.org... but I need to get to something that I log into, like... my hotmail account :(
I checked the megaproxy site, and they've changed it. I'm too lazy to play around with it. Fool around with it, or use another one that lets you use secure tunneling, so that your webfilter doesn't block the content.
If you have Linux on the school computers, try ssh -CX to a home Linux box, and you can run GUI apps off your home box, much like VNC would do it over windows, although I am completely clueless how I could set that up.
Maybe you should browse the internet and do all your email stuff at home instead of using everyone's tax dollars to shoot the monkey and win a prize. Just think, because kids were using our tax money to check hotmail at school, they used more tax money to hire an IT guy to spend more money on a web filter. Now that we've spent so much money why not defeat the filter so they'll fire the IT guy and buy a different filter? Using more tax money and adding to the unemployed is like having your cake and eating it too!
That said, I go to a "property rich" school district. Know what that means? All tax money is local tax money. No governement funding.
None of your hard earned money goes towards my badass evil school filter bypassing.
So, basically, your post had nothing.
Kill yourself.
This sounds like a trap, I'd better think twice.
Oh and I'm sorry I don't know everything about your life. You detailed very clearly in the first post where you went to school and I can see now where my mistake came from.
The point still stands. They don't want you going to hotmail, so just wait until you get home. I promise you don't have anything important in it.
No wonder why kids are morons these days... they don't learn anything in HS, they just sit their ass on the internet the whole time.
Well these goddamn filters not only block porno and shit but block some educational sites
Atma: they don't fire net guys, just work them more. And, they're salaried! No overtime! And, I discovered a horrible flaw in my schools network! There is a local, unprotected cache of everyone who has logged onto the computer's network drive! Including teachers! Including tests and midterm examinations! I did something I may regret come midterms, and emailed our network admin. He said he knew about the problem, and had only heard about it just last year.
Ich I knew that I just like to give punkonjunk a hard time. I worked in a school district's tech department for a summer once and you could pretty much do what you pleased and double-speak your way out of it. Out of the other 3 employees, the only one that had any potential for learning and that knew anything was the lowest on the totem pole.
The other two included Ms. "I'm halfway to an Associate's at the local community college and I passed a Cisco course" who never thought anything someone else said would work. We had a lab full of spyware riddled computers, but I found that Spybot handled them well. She insisted she would make a Ghost image of a clean box and reimage all of them. I told her it would be faster to clean them manually. Oh no, she has the Cisco certification and she learned all about cleaning spyware off of PCs in the Cisco class so I couldn't possibly have a good idea. During the inital cleanup, I had 12 of the 40 PCs clean in an hour before she made me leave so she could do the imaging. 2 weeks later, she still hadn't figured out how to ghost an image and the lab was still infested. Also this was her checklist for fixing a server:
Reboot Reboot Call the man in Jackson to come and fix it
Then there was the guy who stayed around the office downloading stuff on Kazaa all day. Every now and then he accidentally locked the door and wouldn't answer for a while. Creepy.
It is my experience they don't fire IT; they hire assistants. I feel sorry for the schools and I'd love to help them one day, but I'll be condemned before I actually work for a school district again.
Anyway, zeldaclassci is actually right, occasionally a site gets blocked that should not be blocked. However, I think it's wrong to blame the district for putting the filters there. Instead, get pissed at the numbskulls who would browse porn and search for instructions on building bombs at school. If kids could be trusted to use the internet at school for what the nice taxpayers bought it for, then you'd have leeway.
Well, lets see, I used to use hotmail to email web-page design homework to and from home. But now I cannot do this. The class swamps us with work, and there is no way I'm going to run around clad with 8 floppies to transfer all my work.
I wasn't expecting you to know anything. I was making a point that maybe, just maybe, you should think twice before you click that post button to contribute absolutely nothing to a thread I asked for help in.
Which brings me to my next point - you admit that your post was just to give me a hard time. isn't that... trolling?
EDIT: I actually got around to reading the whole post. I do agree with your last statement. I have an objection to porn, and if your going to indulge in something of the like, at the very least, save it for the privacy of your parents computer. I don't want to take the fall for it.
Filters are good, in the sense that they introduce children to asinine restrictions and biting frustration, which is, in general, the entire point of High School. How else can they adjust to our lovely society. If kids are smart enough to apply themselves to beating the system, it gives them something to distract them long enough to avoid restraining orders, suspensions, and all the other truck attached to life as a social and intellectual outcast. Dorks.
Man, I remember when if your web page couldn't fit on a floppy, you were doing something wrong.
Get a USB drive those are pretty :cool: though if your school was like mine that can be unreliable.
Find an email service or free web host that isn't blocked by websense and problem solved. Does it block geocities?
I have a USB drive, (its SO pimp) but the web page design lab doesn't allow acess to it... its alot of work to get on a computer that does.
As for web hosting, I actually looked that up today, I started using this "sharemation" site.
Geocities is blocked. AGN is blocked as "gambling"... Websense is destroying the internet for students. :(
Mikeron - HAHAHAHA! A teacher at my school recently compared High school to an assembly line. his points were disturbingly accurate...
this site, in relation to something, will get you almost anywhere -
exceptions are most things you need to log into, and anything that uses java.
Clickey.
