Considering my limited knowledge of networks and what not I figure I'll just ask all of you risking "fuck offs." I am trying to get into AGN chat but the firewall blocks it and is intended to. The person running the computer room suggests proxy's(which is probably something I should know) but say he isn't allowed to tell me exactly how. anyway I have one motive and that is kill boredom. even if AGN doesn't do it I am sure fighting this firewall could offer some entertainment. thanks for any help.

If you're using mIRC go into Options > Connect > Firewall and input the proxy information. Before going through the trouble of that though, try port forwarding 6667 (the default port that mIRC uses to connect with) through the router you're using or changing it to one that's already been forwarded under Options > Connect > Options - "Default Port".

ah! what evil!

For forgive my stupidity or whatever but these damn proxies aren't working. I wouldn't give a shit but I finally got kazaa lite to install and it won't connect. Now I figure I am doing something wrong. *cries* I need me music.

Well, I can get into IRC from school by using PuTTY to SSH into the texasdex.com server, then SSH into my box over our network, and use IRSSI (my IRC client; it runs in bash). You need Linux.

I can give you a lot of proxies (http://www.texasdex.com/adexter/prox.txt), although I'm not sure if all of them work. I've just not bothered to figure out how to use them, because the first method works for me.
