Bush Shrubbery Slash oriented problem

Whenever I run my quest (overworld which has plants which can be slashed, the plants don't turn into a stump which you can walk on. I do however get the items( if I hit them with a boomerang)

?? How do I stop this!
I tried the 184 file and tried copying the shrubbery's properties but failure.

someone please help or else I'll turn into Cranky Kong (oh no)

it almost sounds as if there is a repeated layer on the screen. press PgUp on the keyboard in zq until you come to a layer panel at the bottom of the screen. only 0 should have a cirlce under it (the rest shoudl just have squares (unless of course you purposely put a layer somewhere (too many parentheses))). if you didn't intend for there to be a layer elsewhere and you see a circle under something other than 0, then there could be a layer repeated on the screen. this has happened to me when i first started using layers and is why i never use the autolayer function.
