Hm. On some forums, they have forums within forums. Click here for an example. (http://invisionfree.com/forums/support/index.php?c=2) What are your thoughts on them? If you owned a forum, would you have subforums easily? Or would you only rather have them if they're rarely used? Would you think them an inconvenience?

I think sub forums just clutter up the forums. Unless there's a real need for a separate sub forum, I don't think they should be used.

As i see it it's just more compact :)
I wouldn't see them as an incovenience nor as a pre,
It does load faster then the AG Forums (not that much tho :)),
but then again I do think AG Forums have a better overview.

Overview?

(Note, that I'm not "suggesting" anything. It's just a random survey. :p )

subforums are really only necessary when you have a large list of individual forums that are part of a single main topic. for instance, if we had a computer help forum and we wanted individual forums for help with Windows, Linux, MAc's etc... you could have the Computer help forum as the main forum and then subforums for all the others.

What I mean is here for example you see

General Forums
General discussion
New Members Forums
etc.
Arts & Entertainment
General Entertainment Discussion
and so on.

And there you would see

General Forums
Arts & Entertainment

You'd have to click 1 of those to see the SF.
Some of us might get tired of clicking that much (like me :D)
anyway thats what I meant by overview :D
And those where just my thought on it :p :D

I guess you're right when talking about the code index, snippets and request. (:banghead: untill drops)
I looked in a rocket speed, AGF's style still better :) in my opinion.

I think sub forums would be useful for something like a fan media section of a forum, with sub forums for different categories, like artowrk, sprites, and music. I can't really think of how a sub forum would be used for something like general discussion, unless it was for archives, banned topics, or announcements that have to do with that forum

At one point in AGN's history, we had like, a million sub-forums and user-owned forums and the like. In the end all you need are a handful of forums.

they are good for separating things, but too many can be cluttered. i wouldnt use them unless absolutely necessary.

Personally, I would use them to keep the main forums defined. For example, I would have a General Discussion thread, and as a subforum, a "Media" forum, discussing TV, shows, art, etc. As a next forum, an Electronics forum. That's for computers and such. Under that as a subforum, a Gaming forum. .. Etc.

I think I remember those. Weren't they active about 2 1/2-3 years ago?

I still think we need a Art & Expressions forum for:

Drawings
Web Design
Photoshopping
Poetry
Writing
Any other forms of expression

No, we don't. Use 'General Entertainment Discussion' or General Discussion. There's not enough interest for it to have its own forum. We've tried already.

I alwaysed liked the sub forum idea. Cause it is nice if people are hosting quests and such. PZC does that a lot.
