View Full Version : Can AGN make the news?

I've been working alot with dollar amounts today at my job, and I got to thinking how can AGN make more money. You know, what with the recent host move and whatever else is going on I don't really know anything about it, but hey, why not consider something like this since I'm too cheap to sign up for premium membership right now, right?

Well what's better than free advertising? ...not much. And if you're a believer in "there's no such thing as negative advertising", what's better than being advertised on the news? ...not much.

So here's what I think we should try:

Just add a line of text to your sig like mine. The key is to use some obvious buzz words but in an innocent sequence.

For instance:
Our President is da bomb up in that White House! It'd kill to have job security like that for four years!

Maybe if enough of you more frequent posters use it, AGN will eventually get repeatedly red flagged because it'll look like every post is using those buzz words and before too long we'll be classified as a terrorist subordinate site. But then as soon as we're looked into, it'll just appear we're a bunch of patriotic idiots with poor choice in words (which isn't too far from the truth: regular idiots with bad grammar). It'd make for a funny story on some news site, or Fark.com, or something gay like that, you know? Then AGN's name would be out there more and attract more people, perhaps some with money, and then we can ban them when they're stupid and still have their money.

So help support AGN, and create your own patriotic saying for your sig. Or, create one for someone who's willing to display it.

Note: The poll will display your name.

I picked the last opition... It is a very interesting idea though... Maybe if there was a less embarasing way.... I'm not sure how though. Maybe some of our better thinkers could handle it....

It sounds like a hare-brained idea that will be more likely to kill AGN by the time it's newsworthy. Do you know what those government guys do to computer-related stuff before they even find out if it's a hoax?

It'd be cool except when the government decides your computer contains things they need, they don't ask politely for you to shut it down and hand it to them. I read a while ago about a guy who ran an ISP who was asked to provide several gigs worth of files from some of his customers' accounts by the CIA. He didn't provide them fast enough for the agents' tastes so they brought in dollies, PULLED THE PLUGS FROM SERVERS, and toted them away with no indication of how long they'd be gone.

Not to mention when a site is repeatedly red flagged, the next step is a human reads it instead of a computer. I think they'd figure out we weren't terrorists pretty quick.

Here's a better idea. Everytime there's a newscast in town (happens on the odd occasion down here) we try our best to get a shameless plug for AGN on there. This terrorism thing will work, but i dont think we are quite crazy enough to get on the news for it.

just walk buy with a huge sign that says 'COME TO WWW.ARMAGEDDONGAMES.NET FOR FREE PORN'. one problem is it would have to be live, so they can't edit anything out

or you could wear a t-shirt. something subliminal. I like my idea better, though

oh, I voted 'count me out'

You can count me in. Do I have to create my own thing for my sig though. Can I use yours DP?

Just make your own, or use which ever is your favorite you see someone else using.

It's more fun to make your own. How 'bout:

Did you hear they've banned blow up dolls from the Pentagon? *lol* The Secretary of Defense probably will die now without his silent partner.

-or-

I took a backdoor tour of the White House last October. Well, I'd eaten some dynamite Taco Bell a little before so I had to jet it to the Captain's head and let my ass explode for about a half an hour. I still feel sorry for whoever had to clean that up.

-or-

I dropped a quarter and Washington landed face down. I do when I fall too.

Stupid stuff like that. It's not that hard. Remember to remove the bold tags though.

This is a graet idea, let's antagonize the FBI spooks.

The only possible publicity this could bring is bad publicity.

You do realize, DP, that if this plan works and we get mentioned on a popular site, such as Slashdot, that our monthly bandwidth, even if it is the very first day of the month, will be gone in about 5 hours. I'm sure several people wouldn't be too happy about that.

I think this is still interesting and would be fun to do...

You bring up a very good point.....all this is gonna do is destroy the bandwidth...

Getting slashdotted, and inundated with "n00b's" like when we did the hosted forum for touristguy.com? No thanks. That kind of growth (too fast) causes problems.

Although having a site with "Armageddon" in the title is fun too.
