I need help on defeating this guy on the Metroid Prime quest.

I'm trying to get the Phazon Beam (I dunno why cause in Prime the phazon beam comes with the suit and only works when samus steps on phazon)

Theres this one guy thats in the room where the beam is but I can't seem to beat it. I need pointers.
