how the hell do they get it that small? I want it.
It's the same compression that the "Game in 96kb" (http://theprodukkt.com/) uses.

The game is able to get so small because instead of storing textures or models, it has the instructions that the artist used to get those textures/models. I'm not sure how exactly a video would use this, but in the day of the 5.5gb game(UT2k4), it's pretty refreshing to know that compact files do matter.

On the gaming: developers seem to assume that (for gamers) if you're hardcore or something close to it, you're going to have reasonable killer hardware, or low settings optimized for speed. A decent gamer could be expected to have 5.5 GB of space left free, and it would help optimize the game for speed, by reducing the amount of on the fly processing required.

Speed kills, slowness dies.

It is a tradeoff between space and speed. Something that is stored uncompressed can be passed directly to the rendering engine or wherever, but then you end up with gigantic file sizes.
