If you were wondering why I haven't been around for the last few days (and there is a good chance you weren't), My brother, my computer, and I have been at a local LAN party. It ran pretty much nonstop from 7:00pm on Friday to 7:00pm today (sunday). It was pretty fun. The games we played were mainly Call of Duty, Counter-Strike, and Starcraft as well as a little Halo on the X-box. I've had very little sleep. It probably totals to about 6-7 hours non-contiguously since Friday morning.

Have any of you been to a LAN party and what were your experiences?

I've gone to a few all-day X-Box parties at my friend's house. Never had a large/long computer LAN party though.

God, I dont think I could stomach 48 hours of Counterstrike.

48 hours of ZDaemon or Tribes 2 on the other hand...

My dad has them annually with my 2 uncles, his cousin, and 2 of his friends. That is 6 people. Try sleeping when they play right below your room non-stop for 36 hours. They only play Red Alert 2 and Diablo 2.

I've been to many LAN parties, although generally it ends up me playing my GCN with all the guys girlfriends cause they don't have a computer heh. I dont like taking my computer places so I just bring my GCN. FUN! Generally they are a day long (all day all night)

I have them at my house about once a month with 4-8 people. I also goto a few larger local ones, and the pdxlan (large lan in Portland) every year. I am also planning a trip to the overclockersclub.com LAN party in alabama this year. It'll be awesome. :)

At my LANs we usually play warcraft 3 and Ut2003/2004. We have also been known to paly through NWN campaings and bust out NFS underground. They are a lot of fun, usually last at least 24 consecutive hours. But a word to the wise if you want to host lan parties. Make sure you can plug the computers into at least 2 circuits in your home, preferably three. Nothing is worse than plugging in all the computers, getting everything ready, and tripping the circuit breaker as soon as everyone loads up ut2003. Also, 8 computers put out a lot of heat. If the ambient temps get too high, be sure everyone is checking the tems on their computers.

I used to do them all the time when I was addicted to Diablo 2:Lord of Destruction. Me and my bother would play 1 room apart on 2 diffrent computers. Great times.

What is ZDaemon?

It's an online version of Doom. Grab it at http://www.zdaemon.org/ . It's pretty nice.

I could never do more than 12 hours.

There are gamers, and then there are powergamers.

Pfft, 12 hours barely counts as a LAN party. It funny that it was supposed to end at around 11:00am that morning, but we kept on playing until 7:00pm that night. You can lose yourself pretty easily when "lanning"

Btw, here is the site the kid who runs it made:
