Here it is: What do the Ronald McDonald houses do with all of those pop tabs that people collect for them? is it for the alminum? You would think if it was, they would take the entire pop can. Are pop tabs the currency in some third world contry? What's the deal?

There is a company, im pretty sure, that takes pop tabs and gives ten cents apiece for them.

According to their website, over 400 million pop tabs have been collected, generating over $300,000.

That's like 75 cents per 1000 pop tabs. I assume thats what they get, per weight of aluminum. I guess the tabs are easier to collect than sticky nasty cans they have to crush and clean.

I think JJ is right, they turn them in to a aluminum company, which I think, recycles them for aluminum, and they get paid for the wieght.

They are building a giant robot, controlled by the minds of children, the coldest, most deadly beings in the world.

Actually, the tab part contains purer aluminum than the rest of the can, so it is therefore worth more.

That's what I heard, anyway.

On a side note, why is it that the U.S. is the only country in the world that says Aluminum? The rest of the world says "AluminiUm."

I'm going to go with snopes on this one. (http://www.snopes.com/business/redeem/pulltabs.asp) Granted the article is from 2002 and it could be that there is now someone actually doing it, but the money generated compared to pop tabs collected is close enough I guess given inflation and a generous margin of error.

Will the robot use old people's medicine for fuel?

Because if not, why bother?

Yes, I've actually heard the same thing. We used to do the same thing in 4-8th grade with our snapple poptop lids, and we heard the same excuse from the resident Madame' Commandant.

uhg, what they do is soda companies like Pepsi and Coca-Cola give cash to charities and other non-profit organizations for aluminum tabs. It IS that simple.

If the can is worth 5 and the tab is worth 10 shouldn't we get 15 cents per can? And I also heard that they were used to make wheel chairs. Maybe it secretly is currency in some third world country or mabey they just want to collect tabs for absolutly no reason at all.
