i've made one room, and i need to know what you guys think before i make any more.

I'm hoping to make a quest with 4 main scenarios:
inside houses;
outside, but not in dungeons;
dungeons;
overworld map.

The last one would be kinda like in Golden Sun, where you see your character walking on the bigger world.

EDIT: sigh, that yahoo account had a lifespan of about 40 minutes. i've got an overworld pic now, but i need someplace that hosts .bmp's.
edit2: i found one. here it is:

The overworld is nice, and that's a really good idea.

One suggestion, the gray by the bottom of the mountain makes it look out of place. Either round the right angles with some green or just put green at the base of the mountain.

Other than that, these are some great tiles.

yeah, i was going to do that. i just didn't feel like it at the time.

edit: i've re-made the map picture with new trees and rounded mountain bases. tell me what you think.

ever heard of a .gif? they're alot smaller and they load alot faster than BMPs... anyway

those aren't bad, but they're horribly lacking detail

and a note: Golden Sun was not the first game to feature showing your charachter on the overworld. that, to my knowledge, was Final Fantasy, for NES, so your analogy is off by quite a few years. just had to say that :shrug:

You really need to work on the gray aroung the bottom of the mountans. I like the path though.

i figured that there would have been other games that had the map-style overworld, but GS was the only i'd played, so that's what i compared it to.
my computer is really crappy so when i change a picture to a .gif it goes all weird. ive tried it a couple times but it doesn't seem to want to work. I definately need to learn to put more detail into the tiles, but i'm sure that that will come with time; as the title says, this is my first time making tiles, other than for Ian's contests.

It's not your computer... gifs have a limited color ability. try tweaking it in ImageReady (it comes with Photoshop) if you have it. Or better yet, just save as jpg. It's a compressed format too...

I used to have problems with gifs too, saving something as a gif and the colors would change... well, now you know.

yeah, .jpgs are better than .gifs, come to think of it, because it prevents (almost) any attempt at ripping tiles. PNGs are good too, because they can be 24 bit color, and ZQuest can't rip from that properly

They're good if they're just lineart. But they are just two straight lines filled with grey. Honestly, find a picture of a mountain, try drawing something similar to that.

Here, 2 minutes:

You can do it. :thumbsup:

no you guys... that's the ancient battleground where the giant links once fought hundreds of giant ganons. All that remains it the ashes...

True enough. i made those as a basic plan, all these tiles need MUCH improvment. i'm still learning... :(
