I have looked in the help file and all over Zquest and I just can't find how to implement MP3s into the game (Read the beta reports, it says MP3s are now compatible as backround music in the 184 alpha report)

Has anyone figured out how to do this?

Have you tried to insert MP3s as other T. music is inserted?

Yes. When I click on instert tracker music, no files show up in any of my folders, including the folders that have all my MP3 music. (I have no tracker music that uses the other file types) I thought it might also be in the Midi section, but it wasn't.

I'm not aware that a 184 (or later) ZQuest was made public. Only players. Please check Etc->About in ZQuest to know for certain what version you have.

Yeah, the topic titles for the most part say "player release" instead of a full version. There's probably a reason why ZQuest wasn't released(obvious at AGN, and the PZC bug reports tell alot). No need to whine about it if you don't have it I guess.

Oh, so you mean we get to continue to delete about a zillion junk files off of our hard drives every time we run ZQuest?
Keen!
Unless there is some nastly problem with ZQuest 183, I think it ought to be released to cover for 182's data sloppiness.

You'd probably be doing so in later versions anyway.:p And they take up 0 space, so it's not that bad.

they did release the alpha 184, but I dont think it was the real one since it told me it was 183. :\

No, they take up space. Right click them and see where it says "space on disk".

....Which is 0 bytes. 0 space, just like I said.:p They do litter the HD, but it seems that they aren't a real threat.

For me the size on disk is 1 byte.

I think the release was beta 183 again, because nothing changed and it says that it's beta 183.

Anyways, Beta 184 was 'released' in the "Beta 187-Public Release" thread, but I've yet to see any difference from 183, so it is my belief that the link was to a 183 player instead of the new one.
That's why I brought up the MP3s.

Either 184 came with the 184 player and 183 Zquest, or it was the 184a release, and the developers didn't bother to change the name(because it wasn't planned to be publicly released.)

One thing did change.. I was messing around and I tried the boss key "boss lock block" combos and I couldn't open them without the boss key.. That bug was fixed.. So it definately wasn't 183 again all over again. I just say we got jipped because I had a lot of MP3s I wanted to play in my quests.

I have Pharaoh which uses mp3's and the music files alone are 80 megs.
I question weather mp3's are a good idea anyway seeing as one song is a meg or more.

We have SPC support now... and yes, the option can be abused, but the system is designed so that you can also specify a MIDI file simultaneous to MP3/OGG/Tracker/SPC, so that if external file isn't found, ZC falls back to playing the specified midi, which will always be present in the quest file if specified.

In this way, you can design your quest to be download friendly, putting mp3s and such in a separate download from your quest and letting the end-user choose what they want.

I don't want to speak my full opinion without getting too flamey, but let me say this: Choice is fine for others, but I prefer quality control over pandering to this bizarre allergy to downloading a few extras. If I have a Tracker, SPC, or even an mp3 of a song, I will use whatever represents the music the way I want it represented the best. I refuse to cheapen my work by allowing the end user to settle for less.

And after all, someone has to set the trend or else the capability that everyone wanted will be removed because they decided they didn't want to bother.
