I was looking through some of the Rovers raw images when I saw this. If you look just above the horizon, you will see a dot. The link above is to the enlarged image, and the dot is a little larger. It could be a dot on the camera, but I don't see it in any other pictures. I doubt its a UFO, but who knows?

Since that is a mars rover, chances are its a martian moon.

It's probly just a little dot on the camera, or, like Jakq said, just one of Mars's moons.

After Lookin at this pic, look at the top left hand corner. There is something up there thats not circler in shape...

There are winds on the surface of mars... and (obviously) dirt. It could very well be particles of rock flying around while the picture was taken. (or even dirt on the lens of the camera that took it, as the two black "dots" are the same/close in size)

They're UFO's. The aliens inside are laughing at the Rover. "Look, haha, stupid earthlings still use wheels! Hahaha, hehehe... Here we are, flying through the frickin' air! They're still on wheels! Hahaha, hohoho... I can't wait until we declare war on them. Stupid humans! And I still can't believe they're female race only has 2 boobs... Only 2!!!"

that mark in the top corner is probably dirt, but i still think the other is a moon

I doubt that it's dirt. After all, if there is so much dust and general debris on the surface of Mars, why does dirt only appear in those two places?

THEY'RE ALIEN SPACESHIPS!!!

Heh, or mabey EARTH ( tho i doubt it, hehe) or mabey its the sun...

What the HELL do you think UFO stands for?

It's a cacodeamon, viewd from very far away. They're waiting for us humans to colonize Phobos and Demos so they can attack us and eventually be killed by a space marine.

Yeah, it's probably debris.

cacodeamon? Did you make that up?

Did you see that press release with the picture of a blue sky on Mars? Shortly after it was released, it went down. Somewhat peculiar.

The moons of Mars aren't round.

I questioned if that dot could even be one of Mars' moons, so I decided to compare sizes and distances...

Here's information about Earth's moon:

Distance Radius Mass
Satellite (000 km) (km) (kg)
--------- -------- ------ -------
Moon 384 1738 7.35e22

http://seds.lpl.arizona.edu/nineplanets/nineplanets/earth.html

Mars' moons:

Distance Radius Mass
Satellite (000 km) (km) (kg) Discoverer Date
--------- -------- ------ ------- ---------- ----
Phobos 9 11 1.08e16 Hall 1877
Deimos 23 6 1.80e15 Hall 1877

http://seds.lpl.arizona.edu/nineplanets/nineplanets/mars.html

These distances are from the center of the planets. So, remember that Mars is smaller than Earth, so the same distance between the center of the planet and an object in space would look like more on Mars than it would on Earth. Mars' moons are also much smaller than Earth's.

Earth's moon is 42.66 times as far away from the center of the planet as Phobos, and is 158 times the size.

Earth's moon is 16.69 times as far away as Deimos, and 289.67 times the size.

I don't know if I did the right thing, but I divided how much farther Earth's moon is by how much bigger Earth's moon is. I got 0.27 for Phobos and 0.058 for Deimos.

So, I take it the moons of Mars would appear much smaller than Earth's from their own planet. Of course, you also must consider that Mars is smaller than Earth, which I didn't (since I'm too lazy), so they will appear even smaller than my calculations, if correct, suggest.

If somebody knows I messed up, please correct me.

I think the dot is much more likely to be something on the camera or something flying in the distance due to the winds, though.

That black dot may just be a piece of missing data... it does travel quite a few million miles to get here after all ;)
