All soft pads will die, guaranteed. I went through about 3 different ones before I realized this. At that point, I ordered myself a pair of Cobalt Flux pads, and have never been happier :D.

You can get accutal arcade pads that hook into you PS2 for about $250 I forget what site I saw that at though, its pretty cool, comes with the bar and everything.
