Wow, I actually managed to get up and draw something within a month of the last time I did that! Anyway, I drew these about four days ago, scanned them, colored them, usual routine... anyway, I tried to shade them a little more than I have been shading things, but they still look fairly solid-colored to me, so I'd like to hear other people's opinions as to how that came out (well, I'd like to hear any opinions, really, I try to improve where I can and suggestions can help quite a bit sometimes).
Anyway, the drawings are based on the three main characters/party members from the game Dragon Quest II (known as Dragon Warrior II in the United States). They don't really have names per se, because in the game you pick the name of the first character, and the other two's names are determined by the first letter of whatever you named the first character, so they're generally just reffered to by the kingdoms they're from.
The Prince of Laurasia/Middenhall (http://www.angelfire.com/folk/spacelazers/DQII_-_Prince_of_Laurasia.gif)
The characters don't have a very defined personality in the game, but just from their appearances, abilities, some dialogue in the unofficial translations in the SFC remake, and what story there is in the game, I've kind of pieced together idealizations of what I think the characters act like. Keep in mind that these aren't official at all, I just made them up for the most part. In this guy's case, I always kind of picture him as a not-overly-intelligent-but-not-stupid, serious-minded person, who is very strong but doesn't always understand things unless you, err... explain it to him properly ^.- In that sense, I think of him a little like Jack O'Neill from Stargate: SG-1.
The Prince of Sumaltria/Cannock (http://www.angelfire.com/folk/spacelazers/DQII_-_Prince_of_Sumaltria.gif)
I get the definate impression that this guy is kind of absent-minded, and also kind of a procrastinator... but with kind of a sunny disposition, possibly due to not really understanding what's going on around him most of the time ^.- In the game, he's supposed to be a mixture of the first and last characters, being able to fight fairly well and equip some neat armor, while also being able to use decent magic but no fantastically powerful spells; however, in the NES US version, he tends to seem much weaker than either of the other characters, and aside from a few good spells he knows (Return, Revive, etc.) and from supplying another turn and more item spaces, he's not really all that good:P For some reason I've always liked this character, though.
The Princess of Moonbrooke (http://www.angelfire.com/folk/spacelazers/DQII_-_Princess_of_Moonbrooke.gif)
In the game, this character is from a kingdom which is destroyed in the game's intro, which tends to make me build the idea of her being a little depressed and quiet most of the time. I would also guess that she's extremely intelligent, though, from her good magical abilities in the game, and I imagine her as being very kind and nice to those around her, kind of a philanthropist.
Also, for those of you not familiar with the games, the creatures off to the sides of them are monsters from the game; a slime, a drakee, and a healer, respectively. I didn't really work very hard on these and mostly just put them in for effect, so they don't really look as good as the main drawings, I'm sure.
And, just a note of mild-to-little interest, those little DQII avatars on the list (Laurasia (http://www.armageddongames.net/forums/images/avatars/PrinceofLaurasia.gif), Sumaltria (http://www.armageddongames.net/forums/images/avatars/Dragon_Warrior_II_-_Cannock.gif), Moonbrooke (http://www.armageddongames.net/forums/images/avatars/Dragon_Warrior_II_-_Moonbrooke.gif)) that about two people have ever used to my knowledge? I drew those, about a year and a half ago... I know, they look kind of... simple:P That shows how much practice, time, and what kind of tools you use affect your drawings, though, I suppose. I mean, by no means to I mean to be conceited or say "haha, I kick ass now!" or anything like that, I really don't feel in a proper position to judge my work anyway, but when I go back and look at some of my older stuff, I tend to think pretty negatively of it... oh well.
Anyway, let me know what you think... and please don't hesitate to make any suggestions or express things that you see problems with/things that you think could be improved, I would be interested to hear such things. Thank you.
