I know I have no idea what I'm getting myself into, but I want to put Linux on my laptop. I know some of you have Linux, so I was wondering if you could give me an idea on how to start. Keep in mind that I live in Windows and don't do anything outside of it. :D

Thanks Pablo. Looks like Mandrake would be easy to install.

Go with Mandrake. I had redhat for a week or so, and screwed up trying to convert my ext2 filesystem to ext3, which made it unbootable. I just happened to find my Mandrake install CDs from a few months back. The difference is AMAZING. Mandrake comes with so much more stuff.

As for the laptop install, all I can say is search around first and see if anyone is having any problems with your particular laptop.

^ That site should have plenty of info. I also recommend looking over http://linux-newbie.sunsite.dk/ <- that site. I pretty much learned everything I know from there.

The latest Mandrake (9.2) is only available to club members at the moment. It's really nice, but there have been a lot of bugs found so, some which are really annoying.

I'd try Knoppix first. This way to can try Linux without making any commitments in terms of changing your hardware. http://www.knoppix.net/

Actually I'm going with ELX since it was easy to download and fit on a 650 CD. I'll get the UNIX club or whatever help me set it up with duel booting without destroying my computer. ;)
