When I try to run zelda-w.exe, a message box appears, Zelda-w has caused an error and will be shut down.

If the whole log helps, I can supply it. I'm running Windows 2000 SP4 on an NTFS filesystem. Intel Pentium 3, 500 mhz, 96 MB of RAM.

Any ideas?

Yes, I get the same thing on Windows XP when I try to run Zelda Classic-w. If I try to run the DOS version, I get a choppy ZQuest program, and a ZC Program with no sound. I tried playing with the compatibility settings, but the same thing happens: I click the icon, a windows flashes three times, and then the illegal operation window pops up. Curse you, Bill Gates.

Oh, I had the EXACT same problem when I had Windows NT 4. I couldn't fix that. It doesn't run on XP home either, as far as I can tell. But I have XP Professional and it runs perfect. So that should work.

Try these (try ZC after each one of these steps):

Make sure the files you have are not corrupted (redownload ZC).
Delete ag.cfg.
Run Windows update.
Reinstall DirectX.

If it still doesn't work. tell me what the last line of allegro.log says.

I have the latest Windows Updates

It can be found at Pure ZC. www.purezc.com

At least I think so, just enter any ZC forum, and the link will be on top, with LARGE letters. You can't miss it.

Alex, are you sure you have all of the DAT files in the same directory? ZC will stop if it can't find one of them. You need to have 1st.qst, 2nd.qst, 3rd.qst, sfx.dat, zelda.dat, zgp.dat.

All these files should be at Alphadawg's ZC Page (http://www.casadealphadawg.com/zc/index.html).

Try running ZQuest first, to create ag.cfg. Then run ZC. I think the bug fix for that came in a later beta, but for now a missing ag.cfg causes ZC to crash.
