That is pretty lazy, but dang, he lost his job for it? I mean, maybe he did some other stuff like this before, but if not, that does seem a little harsh... it's not like he wrote an article outlining a secret military plan while they were in enemy territory *coughcough*

Yeah, I don't think it is worth throwing out 34 years of work. They must have not liked the guy very much anyway.

Don't you think he would've had a better view on TV than at the stadium? I guess it was just the interviews with players.

He plagarized; the article says his writeup contained quotes from other sources that he failed to attribute. Plagarism gets newspapers in some deep doodoo. (Remember: plagarism is copyright infringement, and that's bad when your entire business is built around publishing copyrighted stuff.) No question it's a firing-worthy offense in that business.
