Ok I have just recently started working on my old mame arcade machine.
I have a computer in it(duh =P) and it is an old junk bot from a old computer store.
Well dos seems to be missing way to many files to run....must of been from a bad reformating......
I dont know if it is illeagle to download dos....well if it isnt I would like a link to a place I can download.
If it is illeagle where could I get it leagaly?
Thanks in advance.
P.S. the reson I want dos is because arcade monitors wont work in windows.:thumbsdn:

actually, the availability of DOS depends on which version you are lookin for... 6.0 is the final version i think... i wouldnt talk about it here though, as i dont think MS has made DOS freeware yet... (although with them only supporting 98 and up, i dont see why they havent)

There are other versions of DOS though. Like IBM-PC DOS, and FreeDOS.

As for the image files, you need a program to RAW write them to floppy disks most likely.

Ok I get to the part of instalation where it says where I should install dos,but when I choose c:\ it say "invalid drive specification"does that mean my hard drive is bad?
*edit*when I try to format the c drive it says "required perimeter missing"

you need to repartition the hardrive, probably, with fdisk. Then reformat. Then install.

Ok I have an fdisk but when I type in fdisk it says no fixdisk present....then I insert it and it will say bad command of file name no matter what I type........It wont let me open the c drive or use any kind of C:/ command.

I believe DOS did have a limitation on the maximum HD size it could handle. Make a smaller partition, preferably below 2GB.

Yes dos does have a limit.
Now lets see should I put the partition size in???
gigabytes,megabytes,or bytes???
I just took the hd out and these are the drive paremeters.
(chs) 8,894 cylinders 15 heads 63 sectors 8,404,830 addresably sectors.
also where can I get a bannana driver for a bec model cdr-1600a cd rom reader.

FAT16 has a limitation of 2GB, FAT32 can go much further. As long as its a boot disk for 98 or higher it should do FAT32.

Ok the hard drive is working now! =)
Now since I have a windows boot disk to start things up it shows a windows 98 boot screen. But after that the monitor looses its signal...whats the deal now!?!?!
