It's his birthday on this June 25th. He was born 100 years ago. So next time you think your world is getting more Orwellean think of this. An interesting site is http://www.factmonster.com/cgi-bin/birthday?month=Jun&day=25

1984 Ownz! That book totally rocked my socks off, it gave me such a new perspective, it is the book I attribute mostly to opening my mind.

The first two are wierd version of mankind. 1984 is what the future might be like though some people say, and are probably right, that it is his opinion of the present, 1948. Animal Farm is where a bunch of animals take over a farm and form a commune. It doesn't work out. I haven't heard of the last and just added it to make at least 3 selections. I think it is autobiographical of his time in Spain.

If he were alive, I would hope his birthday would be double plus good. Definitely not double plus ungood.

It was symbolic of the Russian Revolution. Myself, I've read 1984 and Animal Farm. I loved 1984, but I found Animal Farm to be a bit bland.

I share my birthday with Thurgood Marshall, the first black person appointed to the Supreme Court.

Incidently, 1984 is the last book I actually read for pleasure.

I really liked 1984. It gave me a bright new viewpoint on the way things should work in society, and why you need to fight for your beliefs. In a way, it kind of reminded me of Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury.
