In Zelda Classic, as in the original game it was made to copy, you don't talk to people. Instead people will say a short message when you enter a room.

Does anyone even use door repair rooms in their quests anymore? I've never seen it in any custom quests.

Try Fragments of Power, there are quite a few door repair cranky men in that quest.

You have to give the witch the letter (or mushroom now) before she will speak to you in the original game.

Most quests use the bottle or mushroom nowadays.. I used a broken sword once, but that didn't quite work out well..
