How do I kill that guy to get the bracelet? I grab it and trouble until I eventually die and start again with no braclet. What am I doing wrong??

You mean the mushroom boss and his little ones?
You have to kill the little ones and then hit him with your boomerang about 3 times. (you have the upgrade, I presume.)
You only have the impression that you grabbed the glove, but if the boss isn't dead, it isn't yours yet.
