This is my first post using my new computer hardware.

I got a case, motherboard, Athlon XP 2600, 512MB RAM, CD-ROM, floppy, and keyboard. I've gutted my old case for a video card, firewire card, CD-Burner, and two hard drives, and now everything is working.

Except that I'm going to do a clean install of Win98SE now, since this copy is just moved over from the old PC.

So... I'll be back in a few hours, computing a breakneck speed (well, relatively anyway)....

http://www.Newegg.com is a great website for purchasing any computer hardware. I've spent thousands of dollars worth building other systems, but that was all top-end. You can get some really great deals. (you can easily purchase what fcf did there for 300 or less)

www.pcusa.com Custom Kit 6 I think (Xpert series Athlon) and it was actually $330 with shipping. I found them on pricewatch.com, and chose to order from them because they are somewhat near where I live. They shipped my hardware out on a Wednesday and it arrived on Friday, and that was standard ground.

That's a good bargain.
I could have found a better use for that money, but nobody asked me.

Just for kicks, I did a price comparison.

Component PCUSA NewEgg
-----------------------------------------------
PC Chips M848 54.00 55.00
Athlon XP 2600+ 113.75 96.00
ThermalTake Volcano 8 SE 15.00 N/A(14.99)
2x 256MB DDR/333MHz RAM 57.50 56.00
Floppy Drive 9.25 6.00
52x CDROM 19.50 17.00
ATX Mid-Tower Case & Fan 11.50 18.99
300 Watt Power Supply 11.50 22.00
Keyboard 3.50 4.00
Assembly & 1 yr warranty 5.00 N/A
Shipping 26.60 39.81
Total 327.10 329.79

PCUSA was cheaper, they assembled it all for me, and I got a great box for moving/shipping a PC to boot, with cardboard and soft foam molding to keep it safe.

I got all my stuff from new egg.
A new MB, CPU, vid card, and 512ram cost around 250$ total.
Pretty much a whole new machine, the only thing I kept was the case/power supply.

Hmmm... it may be time to go shopping soon... :kawaii: Only question is, what comes first?
