Marketing everywhere used to suck. It was like a fad. But suckier.

If I saw it back in the day I would think it was alright. But to see it now, I would say it sucks

Grins I think its was so bad that it was good, you know what I mean?

The musik and the nerdy looking guys it could be a add from present time really. Many things are kind of retro its not just fashion and music.

Strange commercial :p. I think it was targeted more at the NES than Zelda though.

Notice how they refer to Link as Zelda? They never mention Link's name in the commercial.

I've read that the very first NOA commercials had real people and not actors do them, and there's one where they have a grandma and she freezes on camera. Someone thought using actual people would be good at the time.

Yoshiman: That wouldn't be the first time I've heard others do that. A couple of friends that used to live next door to me (they moved a few years ago) had the original Zelda. They had files set up for them and a 3rd one which was supposed to be anyone else who wanted to play. There was only one problem: The third file used a name of Zelda, because that's what they thought the main character's name actually was. I feel sorry for anyone who actually tried to use that file (it had over 140 games on it at one point with only 4 hearts, and they thought that indicated the number of points you had :p).

Eep, I seem to have drifted a bit. Sorry bout that :whap:.

On the subject of bad marketing by nintendo, didn't a large portion of Super Metroid's ad campaign revolve around the fact that the cartridge was 10 megabytes or wherabouts?

"Your parents help you hook it up"

Good god were we really that incapable as kids to plug in two cords into the TV and electric outlet? Love the rap too. :)

at the end of that, there is a phrase "go link go! save zelda!"

and SWE:

not sure what megabytes has to do with anything, but in '94 (in the US at least), Super Metroid was the most advanced SNES game available... going at 24 megabit, and the rom is about 1.5mb...

comparing to Tales of Phantasia (released only in Jpan), in '94, was the biggest cart ever... (i think). it was 48 megabit, and the rom is about 4.5mb...

dunno if that does any good comparing... but a 10 megabit cart is a far cry from 48 megabit
