I don't know how many here are interested in this but here is a recent interview with Shigeru Miyamoto about Zelda and the past games, translated from Swedish to English by SuperSectionX.

A few Zelda fans are discussing it here

That was a fascinating interview. I'm not the biggest nintendo fan on the planet, but I have so much respect for SM because he understands that as a game company, your job is not to copy other companies. I believe Nintendo will continue to be a force in the gaming industry so long as it is led by people more concerned with being creative than making the biggest profit.

good interview.
Odd translation at times, but good content.

This quote is worth noting in my mind:

SP: How does the Zelda games get together? Is there any connection between the different games or do you take tell us a new Zelda story each time?

SM: For every new Zelda game we tell a new story but we actually have an enormous document that explains how the game relate to eachother and bind them together. But to be true they are not too important to us. We care about develope the gamesystem give the player new challenges for every chapter that are born.

Leave it to me, but I'd love to see that document.

Awesome article. I wish I had that document, though. Even if i did, I wouldn't be able to read it.
