At HP.com, they have pretty good customizable comps starting at $399. The only problem: no moniter. But since I work at the computer lab at my school, and we have something like 20 excess moniters, I can get a really good free moniter!!! I just saved like $150!! This kicks ass! I'll be able to get a decent computer much sooner now. I'm so happy!!

I just got a brand new 17" monitor at COMPUSA for only 89.99. It's a pretty good deal.

Gerudo, the one I got from CompUSA was 16" viewable flat CRT.

Very crisp and clear! Who cares how much space is behind the screen?

Yeah, CompUSA has been unloading those for almost 2 years now. The one we bought back then recently malfuntioned and is no longer acceptable for use.

HP machines still aren't as good as Dells, which still aren't as good as Macs, but that's pretty good. How fast is it?

Interesting.
I found this article at gamespy the other day and was looking at if I could build something like it.
A Builder's Guide to a Budget Game Machine (http://www.gamespy.com/hardware/march03/bgm/)
I compared and changed some of his suggestions and found I could build a comparable one for about 614$ vs. his 3000+$.
The two big things I left off was a monitor, cus I have one and the DVD burner, thought it to be a bit spendy.
I was looking at a lot of stuff at NewEgg (http://www.newegg.com) but I should check out CompUSA, 90 bucks for a 17" monitor is a good deal.

Only the bargain Dells are any good. And Macs are only good for a few things. They suck for gaming. All the best games are Windows only.

It's a 2.0ghz processer (I think), 256mb RAM (at minimum), 60 gig hard drive, free audio/video card, decent speakers. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
