By the way, this is the reason why I haven't been working on my quest lately...

Get a mod to sticky this. Right now.

EDIT: Dammit, idon'tknow, use .PNGs for screenshots! The current JPG format is way too crappy looking.

.PGGs?...what are they?..i'm using paint to make the pics so can you use this format from paint?...also, does it take up a lot more memory?

Teilyr

PNG.

No, paint cannot save png's. But, it can save gifs. ;)

Besides, idk's tutorial pictures are clear enough to see. Perhaps you should clean your monitor?

thanks Teiler! i'm def not finished..hopefuly i can have at least a couple of pics for each section...if you spot anything wierd or wrong or false info, please let me know so i can change it..i hope, that when i'm all done (which prob won't be for a while), that a mod can freeze a link to the tutorial or something...also, if you feel that i'm not being clear about what i'm trying to say, please let me know where i am lacking clearity...thanx! as long as it is constructive, i dont really mind criticism

Actually, I think your tutorial fills the gaps in Alpha's very, very well. For someone named idontknow, you sure do know alot.

if ya have any like tips or something, or especially "User Contributions" that you I could add to the tutorial, please pm me..i will also have a "credits" page when i finish & i will be sure to include you if you help me out...also, if you have a "frequently asked question" you think i should add to my "FAQ" page, that would be great! any help is much appreciated...

Paint, however, uses only a a GIF 16, or only 16 damn colors. Bad looking. Use a paint program that supports GIF 256 (GIFs with 256 colors). Yes, my monitor is clean.

NOW FREEZE THIS TOPIC SOMEONE!

03-23-2003, 05:40 PM
hmm...well..what kinda comp do ya have, system?...the pics look fine on mine..& i think my pain program does have 256 colors...i'm not positive though...but other than that, how is it so far?...most of what i'm talking about isnt as concrete as like the original stuff...like how the hell i'm i suppost to explain certain things like creating a boss without being vague or confusing? or like what the bush/flower combos do or how to use secondary flags & shit like that?..i haven't really thought of myself as good at explaining things so if you're having trouble understanding anything, please tell me & i'll do my best to fix it...thanx though guys! :)

Your tutorial is great so far. I understand it well (although I know most if not all of it already). Keep up the good work! And mods, PLEASE FREEZE THIS!

DAMN ITTTTT!! AHHH!! hehehe..i just worked on a page for linking strings together & such for like a good 45 minutes at least & then internet explorer shut down after I tried to upload a pic to my page!!! what the hell? it hasn't done that lately...hmmm...i'm sooo pissed! whatever...anyway, yeah, thanx system...i'm glad you appreciate it so far...most of it is relatively basic stuff for the lastest version (& even stuff in earlier versions but not in the original) and i'm likely gonna be adding some nice tips & techniques & such for even people like you...that is, if it doesn't continue to close!!!

EDIT: yeah! thanx for freezing this!!! :)

Sorry 'bout this, I just have to point out that the wand itself, does the amount of damage equivalent to the White sword, not the wooden. ;)

I'm a damage buff.

Win XP paint can save png's, and gif's still have 256 colors.

thanx for pointing that out BH4, about the wand..i didn't realize that....i'll change that later...thanx though..honest, i prefer to have people correct me when i'm wrong...it doesn't hurt to change something...does it?

EDIT: here's a link to a thread regarding "user contributions" to my computer; if you have something you'd like to contribute, click the following Link & then post a reply in this thread & i will most likely put it in my tutorial within a few days..thanx!

Like to make a contribution? (http://armageddongames.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=70528)

IDK, your tutorial is great. In terms of content, it couldn't be better. The only problem with it is that a couple pages are hard to look at and it's a little confusing at times. Other than that, it's great for learning those advanced topics that Alpha's tutorial esn't cover.

Zeldageek
06-14-2003, 08:22 PM
Yeah, what he said. But where the heck is the lock block combo property?

idontknow
06-15-2003, 10:56 PM
what version do you have? the lock block property is for beta 182 or higher (i think, altho beta 163 might've had the lock blocks in them already-i forget) but if there are no lock block combos in zquest, then perhaps you don't have beta 182, or mayb u just don't know what the heck i mean by combo property (like a newbie ;)) except you don't seem like a newbie--but anyway, either ignore that section or just download the latest public beta (beta 182)

Zeldageek
06-16-2003, 12:10 PM
Where can I get that? I can't get it from zeldaclassic.com (http://www.zeldaclassic.armageddongames.com/), of course! Well, gotta go search!:reading:

VERY COOL!

It would be great if you make a unpassworded quest in with we can see these things...
Then people from Austria or Germany, like I, can understand this better ^^

IDK, for some reason your tutorial plays background music even though I have my browser set not to play sounds. I find this very annoying, as I often have my own music I would rather be listening to. I don't see why you need background music for a tutorial, but if you must, at least provide a "stop" button somewhere.

It looks like you have some useful information there that I'd like to learn from, but I honestly can't stand to listen to the OoT overworld theme for more than a few minutes, and especially not when I'm trying to figure out how to use ZQuest...

It would be a great tutorial, but for this one flaw.

You could do what I did :)
copy it all onto a notepad and save it on your hard drive.
I didn't care for the eye candy and music either.

Teilyr

Double click on the speaker icon in your system tray.

Locate the field that says Synthesizer balance (or something similar). Click mute.

The midi (music) will now be muted, allowing you to read with silence.

Guildenstern
11-11-2003, 11:18 AM
Well of course, but what if I'm trying to listen to my own MIDI?

For example, I've been composing a lot of stuff recently, because I plan on using all original music in my quest. In order to hear what I'm writing, the system MIDI volume must not be zero. As I have a tendency to multitask (read: waste time online when I should be doing something else), I generally try to make sure that every other thing on my computer is completely silent.

I did see that IDK links to a .txt version in his signature, but it lacks the pictures, which would be really helpful.

I think I'm more annoyed at my browser than at IDK, though, because when I uncheck "Play sounds in web pages" it should actually not play the sounds; there shouldn't be any way to "get around" (except for Flash animations and Java applets, neither of which IDK has on his page).

Did you use Geocities Pagebuilder for that site? Also lock blocks are NOT in 163.

idontknow
12-22-2003, 10:33 PM
ok, i haven't read anything in thisforum for months...yes, i did you geocities page builder to make the tutorial--also, i added a link to my documented version of the tutorial, thus you can get all the text that comes right from the website so you can read everything without all the distractions like ya said--i'm sorry about the music--if its that annoying, i might get rid of it altogether--as far as the lock blocks, i guess i should put a note in there saying that they can only be used in versions beyond beta 182..thanks for the tips guys!

Don't want to listen to music as you read through the tutorial...Simply view the source code and save the file with a different name on your hard drive. Open the file with some kind of text editor like notepad and delete anything that has to do with playing a midi. Save the file. Now view the tutorial from your hard drive. The music should be gone!

I have no idea where else to put this, (The idea is to keep it available, as in a pinned thread.) so I'll just stash it here.

Here (http://www.armageddongames.net/showpost.php?p=974744&postcount=7) is a link to a brief list of the various effects you can assign to the "sword explosions" in the game. Be sure to thank VEL for it.

Anyone has tutorials for ZCQuest Editor 2.10? I think it's nearly the same with previous versions (can anyone tell me which version is the closest to?), but I think 2.10 is easier to use and more Windows-friendly, but with loads of features added and I haven't been in ZCQuest Editor for about 2-3 years, bringin' it back to my memory makes harder to do than to say.

I'll prefer to this tutorial (and others, cross-linked, if available) while waiting for the 2.10 tutorials. Thanks anyway.

idontknow, why dont you make an exact copy of your site and remove the music and alter the first to include a link to his new page that does not contain music and a link to go back to the page with music or would this be like to hard as i havnt actually looked. is it multiple htm/html pages? (like alphadawgs)

I can tell you that the password to Freedom's Swansong is gleeok3. Unfortunately, I think quest makers usually don't give out passwords since they allow you to access their quests in ZQuest and that would give away quest solutions.
