There is something wrong with my laptop. It turns on and stuff just fine, but when the icons and task bar are supposed to show up, nothing shows up at all. It play the little beginning sound and everything, but no icons show up at all. Does anyone know what the problem might be?:confuse2:

Is the desktop in Web or Active Desktop mode? That doesn't explain the taskbar, though. Try pressing the windows key and holding it down to see if that brings up the start menu.

Okay, if I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, nothing is there either. I have tried everything. My parents think it might need a new hard drive. I will try that fatcatfan. Thanx for the tip.

If ctrl-alt-del isn't doing anything, try booting in safe mode (provided this in Windows 9x rather than XP). After turning on the laptop, hold down the control key until you get a boot menu, then choose safe mode. This doesn't solve your problem, but if you can boot in safe mode, that's a start. Unfortunately, troubleshooting and fixing at that point becomes complex enough that I am loathe to try to explain it all here.

A new hard drive? I kinda doubt that, considering that it seems you're almost all the way into Windows. You might try an OS reinstall... (It seems like something less drastic could fix it, but I can't think what off the top of my head.)

I am stumped. Nothing will work. It is like it freezes up right at that part. I am starting to think it may be a virus, but I dunno what it would be from. See, one day I was playing it, and it just restarted itself, when I typed my password to get to the desktop, no icons appeared.
