I am playing the game and I cannot figure out what to do with the rusty bell. Can anyone help?

Take it to the Smithy in Subrosia.

About where is it (upper left, lower right, etc...) and what do I do? (Does it have anything to do with the 'hard ore?')

No, all you have to do is go there and get it cleaned up. It should be in the area that was accessable from the warp a few screens south of level 3.

The hard ore is what you give them so you get the iron shield, which you should have done after level 5(or before beating level 4 after getting the slingshot).

BTW, this sort of question might go better in General Gaming Discussion (the scary-good-at-Zelda people hang out in there a lot :kawaii: ). I'm not going to move it, based on the "anything-goes-in-GD" principle, but you may want to consider putting similar questions there.
