I dont get this question at all!

Write a system of equations to solve the following problem. Show the solution neatly and clearly, check yout answers.

Andrea has invested part of $6000 in Pine City Municipal Bonds which pay 6% annual interest. She has invested the rest of the $6000 in Oak City Municipal Bonds which pay 8% annual interest. If her total income from these two investments is $460, how much did she invest in each?

AGHHH I hate math, please I really need help!

x = part invested in pine City
y = part invested in Oak City

x+y = 6000

0.06x = interest in pine City
0.08y = interest in Oak City,
so

0.06x + 0.08y = 460

Your system is:

x + y = 6000
0.06x + 0.08y = 460

solve from there on your own... you'll need the skill for the test you will have. :)

Thanks a bunch... but its not gunna be on a test we get weekly problem sets that have nothing to do with our unit... but I know what u mean

If you want to use one variable:
at 6%
(X)
at 8%
6000 - X

.06X +.08(6000-X)=460
.06X +480 -.08X=460
-.02X=-20
.02X=20
X=1000

EDIT: Argh, late.
EDIT2: 15ooth post

SO 1000 was into Pine City and 5000 was in Oak city...

hooray.

I owe u 1

Yeah, I checked it too. If you use two variables:

x + y = 6000
0.06x + 0.08y = 460
Y=6000-X
Substitute the above equation in for Y and you get:
.06X+.08(6000-X)=460
X=1000
Plug in the value in:
X+Y=6000
1000+Y=6000
Y=5000

I'm in Algebra III honors, and I'm in tenth grade, but I had problems like these back in 8th grade.

Hmm. I'm only in 8th grade and they gave me problems like that before. I forgot how to do them though. I hate math.

They should change the name of the Algebra 3 class to Algebra pi.
