Here's a couple of screens from my quest Royal Heart. Keep in mind that these are incomplete areas, without all the eye candy I love so much. But I thought I would show them anyway. here they are:

This is the LTTP version of the screenshot in my sig. The LTTP tiles are hideous to work with, but you WILL get used to them.

Just another part of town. Incomplete of course, there is supposed to be some activity around these areas.

Like my self-drawn girl ^_^ ? I'm drawing all the people myself, so don't be surprised if the characters look VERY amateurish.

This is the exact screen where the first dungeon will be. As you can see, it also is incomplete . I'm getting there all right? And just in case you're wondering, no, this is NOT Level 1. The four main palaces of the game aren't encountered until the second quest file! Of course, that's all in due time :D .

Also, you will not start out with the sword. Sorry, but with a quest as long as this will be, you'll have to put in at least a little effort for every single item in this game, including the useless bait (don't worry, you'll see). Also note inconsistencies in the upper info area. I won't deal with those details until i deem it neccesary, so expect it in even later screenshots.

More details to come, so stay tuned :D .

I can tell you one thing.... The LTTP tiles look ALOT better than the Newfirst ones you have in your sig.

So you recommend using the LttP tiles for a quest? Noted.

EDIT: It looks very nice. Keep up the good work.

Actually, if you are concerned about looks, LTTP is the way to go. As for ease of use... if you don't have a full understanding of how to use each and every tile in the set, I guarantee that your world will look very VERY messed up. There's almost an entire tile page for cliffs alone, and I used only the bare essentials. Newfirst is excellent for ease of use, which is probably the reason why many quest makers go for wither that or the Pure tileset. if you want to see the good results of an LTTP tileset, play Dreams of Yesterday by C-Dawg.

(As you know, I hate making a new topic when I could simply revive the semi-old one)

more screenies. Remember, they aren't complete nor final, they are subject to change, blah blah blah. I have the first cave almost complete. Just a couple of kinks to work out relating to the freeform dungeons rule (i tried switching between dungeon/cave DMaps, but that creates more problems than it solves :( ). Here they are

Here is the almost-almost-almost final entrance to the first major area.

One of the screens in my cave dungeon. I had to rip/draw a LOT of the cave tiles myself because Orion evidently hasn't finished the cave tiles yet.

Since I'm just getting your feet wet, the puzzles will be straightforward and just there to familiarize yourself with the type of puzzles yet to come. Nothing difficult here.

Ok, I admit it. I just put in this one for the heck of it. Nice switch, right? Drew it myself ;) .

I'll give you three guesses as to where this screen goes

http://www.cgi101.com/~jman2050/img/rhshot10.gif
Correct :D

http://www.cgi101.com/~jman2050/img/rhshot11.gif
Yes, you will have to do some weaving. I wasn't gonna go THAT easy on you ;)

http://www.cgi101.com/~jman2050/img/rhshot12.gif
Yes, the dungeon's pride and glory: The Shamen's sword. And what is that mysterious voice?

When I get the chance, I will get rid of that horrible Aghanim sprite and put something a bit more appropriate. Anyways, here is the boss. not too hard, just make sure you don't move too fast

Trust me, the first area has a lot more substance than this, yet is straightforward enough that anyone who knows how to use a boomerang will be right at home. This will be one of the few areas I will be revealing to the public, and I as for the story... you'll just have to wait and see. Let's just say this quest is EXTREMELY story-driven.

Screens look pretty nice, but that floor looks like link can hardly stand on it. IMHO, you should put some foundation tiles under them.:)

I'm getting to that. Trying to get everything to fit together nicely is a challenge, especially with all the tight spaces I have in this area. Maybe I could make the floor slightly less blocky, but that'll still require work that (I believe anyways) is not needed until a release. I want to get everything working before I worry about aestethics since I don't plan on releasing ANY demos.

Well, even though I am not a graphics person, I must say it looks great. It's not so much the graphics that you use, it's how they look when you put them together... and you seem to have done a good job of that. The maps also look interesting... I hope they will present a good challenge. Hopefully the story won't interrupt gameplay, though. I'm looking forward to this. :D
