Zelda Burning Bushes

What am I doing wrong? When I burn bushes with the candle, nothing happens. I'm following the directions in "do u wanna know how to beat the first quest?" from one of the forums on this site. I'm trying to get the magic shield, heart, white sword. Thanks.

Remember that when you burn a bush, you have to make sure that the flame stays on the bush for a few seconds. Be a step or two away from the correct bush when you try to burn it.
