This is a bug-fix release.

DO NOT SAVE OVER OLD QUESTS WITH THIS VERSION! THERE IS A VERY GOOD POSSIBILITY THAT YOU WILL CORRUPT SOMETHING! THE NEXT BETA MIGHT NOT READ QUESTS FROM THIS BETA! USE THE LATEST PUBLIC BETA INSTEAD!

1. Aquamentus now works with new enemy tiles. First row is walking. Second row is charging his attack. Third row is opening his mouth and firing. 181test.qst shows an example of this.

2. SFX.dat is no longer password protected. So, if you have the grabber utility (I'm providing links for it if you want), you can make your own sfx.dat sound pack to submit for future releases. You need to download the new sfx.dat sound pack. The Z3 sound pack doesn't work any more. I will fix this later.

3. Shadows no longer show in dark rooms.

4. Link no longer drops under layers 1 and 2 when he dies.

5. Compiled with Allegro 4.17. This should make it work a little better under XP. You need to download the new version of Alleg41.dll.

Um, can't think of any others at the moment. If anyone can check the bugs that were reported about beta 180 (especially ones that seemed to just appear in beta 179 or 180 but were't present in 178) and let me know ASAP, I'd be most grateful.

... That's weird... I don't know what to say. Its kind of like when you first have sex with a girl, and its over in a matter of seconds... And after the 20 seconds is up and you just finished, you're kind of lost for words. This is kind of like that. Ah well, at least now you can brag that you got you some.

Okay, maybe this isn't even somewhat related to the new beta, but yeah, at least Aquamentus works now... And I'm really happy, I can't wait to see what Queen Zol looks like in ML now.

A bug I found in beta 180 is still in this one. If your on map 10 in one quest, then open a quest with less than 10 maps, Zquest will crash. So if your on a certain # map, and open another quest that doesn't have that much maps it will crash. I did it in the DOS version.

It also does that in the windows version (what VEL said).

I just installed XP so I do not know if it has anything to do with it, but I cannot see the menus in ZQuest. I click and it flashes for a second then disappears. It is still there though, and each time I move the mouse it flashes ever so slightly.

Odd. When you try to click on a menu item, does it draw as though the menu wasn't pulled down? I had this problem earlier because of the upgrade to Allegro 4.17. I thought I had it fixed when I rewrote the menu handler to mimic the behavior of the menu system in Allegro 4.13.

This beta is very handy. You can edit sound effects, use SNESSOR to rip sounds from SNES games, your own .WAV files and make them come to life in ZC.

I have a question: If I add a Swim.wav (I need a Link's Awakening swim sound effect) or a shallow water SFX, will that do anything in ZC?

Dark Nation

No. You can only replace sounds that are currently defined.

Drat. I wanted to add a swim sound effect, tall grass SFX, flowers/bush SFX, Lockdoor open and door open SFX. Looks like I'll hear no sound effects for the recent elements in quests.

I hope the Zelda III sound data file returns in a beta or two with new additions. This beta is the w00t, let me tell you.

Bugs

1.When the left aquamentus (new tiles) dies , 4 poofs of death happen instead of one central poof of death.

2.The layers still arent included in triforce fadeouts etc. Triforce rooms thus look silly

3.Enemy Carries Item flag is still misbehaving. It should be like the following:

1.attach the item to the first enemy

2.the item should be visible. and grabbable when you bump into the enemy.

The way its behaving now , it only appears AFTER the enemy holding it dies. This might be good , but for a seperate flag or something.

BigJoe, bug #3 DOES have a quest rule. Are you absolutely certain it's not turned on?

I have a question about the grabber. I tried replacing the whistle sound with a 30 or so meg large song that's about 3:40 long and it won't work. Am I insane? Seriously, what are the limits as to what kind of sfx that the data file can handle. If I took the 1up sound form Sonic 2, would it work?

Edit: so now I just added two new sound effects, one being the item music from Zelda 2 and one being a 40 meg file that only make the sfx.dat file balloon to about 12 megs. I figured out what I had to do, make the sample rate 16 big mono with the 22000 MZ or whatever.

This will be great once we can customize and attribute sfx to anything. This would be great as it would certainly allow for voice acting.

One more question, about mods and such; first of all, do sample rates apply to mods and such, and if so, is it the same as the sfx?

Dark Nation

Um... Well, the entire sfx.dat file is loaded into memory when you run ZC. So, if you don't have enough memory, you have problems. And sample rates aren't limited to 16-bit mono 22,050khz. I just put together an sfx.dat file that uses 16-bit, stereo 44,100khz.

I found a bug in Zquest.

If Animated Combos are turned off (They don't animate) Then you cannot disable layers.

Appears to have been there a while..

ummm... this may be weird but I can't d/l any of the files.

I tried two days ago and I just tried again and it didn't work. No idea why. I've tried using RealDownload and the regular IE d/l window but nothing works.

No, I know the answer: The zelda-gaming part no longer exists (don't give your hopes up yet). Zelda Classic Network still exists under a new address:
"www.zcnetwork.com/forums/index.php" is your best bet. Though it does not have 181, but it is the forums. Login and you are all set. I hate to say it... ZCN had some difficulty so you have to log in again, not register again. Same great site, same great message board. Tell the others the website is not zelda-gaming, it is zcnetwork (then .com).
