Which set of towers should be "The Two Towers" ? Tolkien did not specify, he speculated on several different combinations. The editors of the books mentioned Minas Tirith and Cirith Ungol, while the movie mentions Orthanc and the Barad-dur. What do you think?

I trust Starkist's knowledge that Tolkien never mentioned which two towers it was referring to. My personal opinion is that it is Sauron and Saruman's towers because the book seems to revolve around them the most.

Saurons and Saruman's. Gondors tower was barely mentioned in the Two Towers.

I THINK THE TWO TOWERS ARE REPRESENTITAVES OF TWO MALE ERECTIONS. THEREFORE THE ENTIRE "TWO TOWERS" MOVIE IS A METAPHOR FOR GAY SEX.

I'm sorry, that was not one of the choices. Please try again.

In case anyone wonders what my opinion was, I think it is Orthanc and Cirith Ungol. For the movies however the action at Cirith Ungol is moved to the next movie.

I have read the book, though long ago, and always thought the two represented Barad-du and Minas Tirith.
Those being evil vs good.
But with the movie I do think now it refers to Orthanc and the Barad-dur.
Where it seems evil will win the war.

Minas Tirith is more of a city to be one... Cirith Ungol and Minas Morgul didn't have enough emphasis to be one...

If u ask me, it's obvious: Barad-dur and Orthanc

you have to remember that tolkien wrote it in 6 parts, not the three we have today. that being said, u can't trust anything in the movies because they make so much up...but having the two evil towers (baradur and orthanac) makes sense with the pali thing that saruman has. Did Tolkien even give the title "The Two Towers"? Or was it editors who did that? I am trying to think if Gondor is in the end of book two. I think it refers to gondor (minas tirith) and cirith ungol personally because i read that somewhere and i believe the tolkien experts

If there was a searchable text of the books somewhere, it'd be easier to identify. It's been a while since I read them, and I've yet to see "The Two Towers" in theaters, but I seem to recall some dialogue from Gandalf referring to the towers.

Tolkien, in his letter #143 to Ranyer Unwin, says the two towers are Orthanc and the Tower of Cirith Ungol.

It is suggested that it's Barad-Dur and Orthanc and said on some interview thing, but Tolkien did write the books in 6 parts. I think the fellowship was 1: The journey of the four. 2. The fellowship of 9. Or something like that; I have no idea about book 2 or 3.
