Well, i know this might sound rediculous, but lets just say hypothetically, if MS, Nintendo, and Sony made one consol that would combine the strengths of each and try to minimize the weakness's... That could a developers wet dream or possibly a developers worst nightmare...

However if it did happen the price would prolly be through the roof becaus there would be no competition... but then we might actually get our Money's worth....

Definatly not, products need competition, and this would destroy just that. Look at the GBA, for instance. There isn't any competition for it, and it is rather sub-par. The sound is poor, the screen is absolutly impossible to see without a third-party light, and it doesn't even have enough buttons to accuratly port SNES games to it.

It wouldn't happen.
Nintendo and Sony would both have to be purchased by MS for that to happen.

And you sorta hit the nail on the head. If this happened there would be no competition in the console market. History has shown that time and time again when there is no competition, or no well known competition, the prices go up on the product that faces no competition.

I don't think it would be a good thing, simply because competition drives inovation in a capitalist society. The console competition results in inovations in each new console.

Very true... very very true...
it is a pipe dream, but like just for the sheer convenience of not having to choose which consol(s) to buy would be nice,
cuz theres awesome games on each...

As you can see, it's not exactly "competition" for the GBA. And what do you mean by "competition always fails?" Quite often there is competition in a market. The big three consoles, for example.

Why not try just buying on the consoles? You can then play all the games...

It was colored, however. If I remember correctly, it also had backlight, which is something the GBA desperatly needs.

Actually, the GameGear was a portable version of the SegaMasters System that ran in a different (lower) resolution and in color. It was actually alot more powerful than the Gameboy at the time but I think cost and lack of games for it killed it. I actually have one too... with Sonic and Double Dragon.
