Today Honda announced a new version of it's Asimo robot model. Asimo, as I learned in a previous article on it, is named after Isaac Asimov, who is largely credited with making robots pallateable to the average person.

It's not exactly intelligent yet, but it is a step in that direction. I can't imagine that it will be too long before they have to start programming some sort of safe gaurds into these things' programming.

That is completely awesome. However, I kept hearing the Terminator theme song in my head as I read the article.:)

Maybe we could hack someones or put a virus on it so it goes berserk and kills people, with no known malevolent party.

If those things wash dishes, windows, and laundry then I'm saving my pennies!

It's a lot of pennies. It's over $116,000 a year to lease.

lol @ ich

Maybe they will have to make some laws that will be hard-coded into their circuitry. They could call them the LAWS OF ROBOTICS! Then we would all be safe and their would never be any problems with robots. Wait, what am I saying, I read I, Robot. And The Caves of Steel. Oh, and that other one, I forget the name. Jehosephat!

Why would Ich ask that question?

And theplustwo, the other three books in the Robot series are The Naked Sun, The Robots of Dawn, and Robots and Empire.

Anyhow, many roboticists realize that some sort of 'laws' would need to be hard-coded into any robot intelligent enough to be capable of intentional harm. So it is very unlikely that a robot could go beserk and start killing people, unless it was made for military use.

Oh no, a berserk honda robot! We might just have to tip it over and watch it twitch hopelessly on the floor.

 and what makes you think it won't eventually?
